Tom Harkin’s local paper exposes his true colors (and they’re red with a hint of green):
Sen. Tom Harkin said he wants Congress to use a climate bill to force auto companies to make new cars and trucks capable of running on 85 percent ethanol as well as conventional gasoline.
“We own the automobile companies. Why not? I think that will be an easy one,” Harkin said Thursday, referring to the government interests in Chrysler and General Motors.
Energy Secretary Steven Chu said recently that all new vehicles should be equipped to run on E85. GM, Chrysler and Ford have been voluntarily making some E85-capable cars and trucks for years but have resisted being required to fit all cars for the fuel.
The plan to revive GM and Chrysler apparently is to force them to produce cars for which there is no demand.
Imagine the mindset there, if you can.

Watch out for the spike in the price of Corn Flakes!
Hey, they didn’t HAVE to take that filthy government money.
You mean our money, right? Otherwise, you’re right. It was wrong for the government to give it, and it was wrong for the auto companies to take it.
I hope they will exempt Ford from this law.
Mind you, I’m even more P.O.’ed about that ton of money Bush shovelled to his bankster friends before he left office. At least Ford and GM _make_ something useful, albeit polluting.
I think the only government charity those greedheads at Merrill Lynch deserved is the sort of free government housing that comes with complimentary orange jumpsuits, but noooo. Gotta protect the rich from the consequences of their idiocy…
Don’t forget that it was in large part the Dems running committees, that last couple of Bush years, that took a lot of money from special interests, and gave a great big fat open door to mortgage abuse to the lenders.
Which is why I’m in favor of regulating the financial “industry” like a Soviet gulag.
See Sarcasmo, the problem was in part with those who would and were supposed to regulate, Ms. Barney Frank and his male counterpart Mr. Dodd. Did they regulate or castrate. Most likely the latter. And yet not enough balls on cap. Hill to call them on any of it! Not a good “nut” in the bunch!
Always was a Ford guy, but have two Chryslers right now. They will be my last Chryslers.
I have nothing to add to this other than Harkin is a do**he bag. That made me smile. Feels good.
The newest models coming out:

Don’t forget, G-MAN that little 1/4 horse will have to be probed for a smog test and charged a carbon offset for every fart!
I’ll make sure to mix the hay with beano
Hilarious G-MAN!!!
Sarcasm, gladly sell you my 2004 Pontiac Gran Prix so I can get a Mustang. Low miles, brand new battery and tires. California inspected so you know the pollution you mentioned which does come out of it is quite low. Make me an offer…
