Obama’s Pants Are on Fire?

It appears the White House is going to delay the release of its budget update because the numbers don’t match its rosy predictions.

The administration earlier this year predicted that unemployment would peak at about 9 percent without a big stimulus package and 8 percent with one. Congress did pass a $787 billion two-year stimulus measure, yet unemployment soared to 9.5 percent in June and appears headed for double digits.

Obama’s current forecast anticipates 3.2 percent growth next year, then 4 percent or higher growth from 2011 to 2013. Private forecasts are less optimistic, especially for next year.

Any downward revision in growth or revenue projections would mean that budget deficits would be far higher than the administration is now suggesting.

Setting the stage for bleaker projections, Vice President Joe Biden recently conceded, “We misread how bad the economy was” in January. Obama modified that by suggesting the White House had “incomplete” information.

The new budget update comes as the public and members of Congress are becoming increasingly anxious over Obama’s economic policies.

Well now, under the standard of Truth set by the Left (funny how they only recognize “truth” when it can be used to downgrade a conservative) Barack H. Obama is a liar. If people die of starvation or commit suicide because of lost jobs, financial collapse, etc. you could well say that “Obama lied and people died”.

Let’s follow the logic…. An Administration, following the advice of its experts, indeed the generally acknowledged state of the economy, and making good faith predictions of what the economy will do in response to its policies makes public projections to garner support for its programs is then forced to reconfigure its facts and figures in the face of realities on the ground. Obviously Obama is a liar. If he’s wrong and he’s on the other side he’s a dishonest SOB and no better than Stalin right? Isn’t that the standard of discourse the Left has set now?

Without resorting to ad hominem (that’s name calling for those on the Left) on either me, Bush, Halliburton, Cheney, et al.) tell us exactly how Obama is not a liar under the standards of honesty (I can barely type that without laughing) set for Bush in 2003-06? Remember I’m not saying he’s a liar — since all lefties are intellectually honest you can really only reach one conclusion. Since I know Bush was unfairly treated I would say that calling Obama a liar is also unfair on this issue.

  • He’s probably not a liar. Just incompetent, as we knew he would be. He needs to read Karl Rove’s article the kid posted to see what works to build up a failing economy.

    • No…he’s a liar. If you restudy the things he said during his neverending campaign, he’s working against it all. Take gun control for example. He said almost everything the NRA and all believers in the “right to carry” principle wanted to hear. But his actions as senator and in his previous workings in the Illinois legislature called him out, yet no one would say a word. Now he’s thinking of signing on to a UN treaty which would almost certainly circumvent America’s sovereignty and 2nd Amendment to boot. That’s just one example.

Rosy Scenario…the wisest Latina of them all,Floyd!

This doesn’t surprise me. When the health care stupidity went from being XXX Billion to what now? 1.5 trillion it sort of goes with the whole oh wow…we were wrong. Now could they have seen this coming yes, if they could add one and one. But leftists, emotionally unhinged loons like we have running the show right now, are unable to do rudimentary arithmatic. Now I am pretty sure Obamawan won’t get his Universal Death Care. Too bad. heh.

Back right after the Big Zero! won, there was discussion the right about how the tactics of the Left (lying, ad hominem, all around general nastiness) were successful, and we needed to emulate them to win. I was and still am a believer that we should force the Left to play the game by one set of standards for all, and since they choose to have no standards, so be it.

This is the sort of thing I was thinking about. Apply the Left’s standards to their Messiah (pbuh) the same way they applied them to Chimpy McBushitler, no matter how unfair those standards might be. Given how few standards the Left has, other than “acquisition of raw aristocratic power by any means”, we shouldn’t let the idea that it’s “unfair” get in the way. When The Big Zero! makes a bad policy decision, call it a lie. When The Magic Teleprompter says something stupid, play it up. (“Cominsky Field”. Even most Northside Fans aren’t that stupid.) Call every policy difference a “trashing of the Constitution”, especially when it is. Expose the personal lives lower level of Democrats (think of them as soldiers in a war, one in which the Dems have no problem with inflicting civilian casualties like “Joe the Plumber” or Carrie Prejean.) And do it all without the raving, obsessive lunacy and with a vocabulary consisting of less than 50% profanities and obscenities.

The Big Zero! is probably not a liar on this issue, but He is expert in telling the truth creatively and selectively.

I see my internet link to Bizarro World is still working.

“Back right after the Big Zero! won, there was discussion the right about how the tactics of the Left (lying, ad hominem, all around general nastiness) were successful, and we needed to emulate them to win.”

Because there’s no such thing as “Swift Boating”, and Bill Clinton was handled with kid glovs by the GOP for fear of disgracing the office of the Presidency. Riiiight.

“Given how few standards the Left has, other than “acquisition of raw aristocratic power by any means”,”

      Two words: “Unitary Executive.”

I’d ask what it feels like to go through life with no capacity for self-reflection, but by definition that question’s unanswerable.

  • >>”Cominsky Field”. Even most Northside Fans aren’t that stupid.>>

Penn State “Nittaly” Lions is still fresh in my head, Raoul, so no problem with me joining this fight’s tactics.

Stephanie, there is a full scale rebellion going on in the House…Mr. Rahm Emmanuel recruited all of these TCVL(Talk Conservative,Vote Liberal)Democrats, but they are afraid of losing their cushy jobs in 2010,when the voters catch on to BO.NP,and Dingy Harry

  • In fairness, the same standards should be applied. Obama lied.

  • Stephanie

I know tehre is a rebellion. Black Nan isn’t a strong speaker. Hell Newt and company got people to get together on our side of the aisle so easily and Nancy can’t get keep her so called Super Majority together?

  • “The new budget update comes as the public and members of Congress are becoming increasingly anxious over Obama’s economic policies.”

Just the economic policies? Hell, when this man wakes up in the morning I start to get nervous about what else he’s going to do to help flush America down the toilet. IMPEACH the bastard! Plain and simple!!!

  • Depending how bad and how soon they tax and spend is the time it will take to reverse the downward spiral. All that money from the 401K’s and retirement accounts that vanished since December 2007 should be repaid by the Democrat party.

Excellent point Floyd. So if we level the playing field by agreeing on the standards of honesty, then it means you have to admit that both presidents are either being treated unfairly or lying. Both presidents made decisions based on information available at the time and in consultation with “experts”. The debate comes in the interpretation of that data and how it will affect our future. By trying to have the standard “bend” to your particular position at the time, you are as wishy-washy and gullible as the liberals you rail against.

  • Floyd

BarryO…. I would argue that Barack Obama is naive, but not a liar at this point. If he continues to say things are rosy given the facts we have now he would shift to being a liar. I’m not saying he hasn’t lied on other stuff, but I like to think I’m as fair as any other biased (many all of us :- ) person (struggling to set them aside for objectivity)

I would say that Bush was sincere and under false assumptions held by the French, UN, Clinton Administration, Israeli intelligence, UK intelligence, Pakistani intelligence, and the behavior of Saddam Hussein himself who even admitted he bluffed and misjudged American response.

I’m a lawyer by training… a lie is told with intent or reckless disregard for the facts as known or readily obtained. People — especially leaders relying on bureaucracies — often times say false things in good faith. Poor hiring choices, poor leadership, etc. all those are arguments to be had. “Lying” is usually a canard. Bush’s problem was in failing to combat the lies about him. Obama’s flaw may be pushing ahead regardless of the truth. Bush de-emphasized and scaled back looking for WMD when it became obvious they were not there.

  • BarryO

Well said Floyd. The main problem (as I am sure you can attest) is really knowing someone’s intent. Which brings me to my rant of the day: to be an effective politician, one HAS to lie. We, the public, accept that fact as part of the system. The divide happens when the lies compromise what we value. I would much rather have a discussion about values than which politician is lying the most.

    • Floyd

Lying and politics… I actually think that’s right…. The danger of course (as with any “sin”) is keeping it in perspective and doing it in only those situations that call for it. That’s why the imbalance in our government and the upset in separation of powers and checks and balances is so distressing. There’s no accountability institutionally. Couple that with an apathetic andf inadequately educated populace = disaster (or at least disaster in the making).

  • While I understand that some prudence in what and how you share what you know is important, I don’t like that to win an election you have to say things you KNOW won’t happen. My husband and I sit through the elections and wonder who is it that is believing this crap(from either side)??? We keep waiting for one of them to say, “Oh yeah? Well, I can fix the economy, the war, AND make bathrooms self cleaning” Oh wait, maybe that last one is just my personal fantasy.

I don’t think he lied about most of the stuff he said and did different. I think it looks different from behind that desk and circumstances alter actions. I’m not mad about it being worse, I’m mad that “just keep spending” seems to be the only idea he has.

  • Raoul Ortega

I’m mad that “just keep spending” seems to be the only idea he has.

We live in a society that seems incapable of saying “I was wrong” or “I don’t know”. Worse, if you do say those things, the public at large thinks of you as stupid or weak, which only encourages people to lie when use those phrases would be appropriate.

apathetic and inadequately educated populace = disaster

Unless, of course, that sort of populace was your goal all along. In which case it equals “perfect opportunity”. In the present case, a perfect opportunity to consolidate your power and force through all your other goals before people figure out what you are doing.
