Obama is flummoxed by this whole brouhaha over Skippy Gates and Sgt. James Crowley. In his world, everyone hates cops. Alinsky, The Weatherasses, ….. his whole crew thinks cops are fascists, racists, jackbooted thugs. If they could just get those thugs to oppress white Republicans and those who hurt their goddess the environment instead of the unwashed voters masses who rage irrationally at authority, and limit the personal choice involved in drugs and wife beating.
Obama went a bridge too far. Even liberal Dem cops are fundamentally conservative — they just haven’t thought past their union propaganda to vote for Republicans — especially back East and in CA. This could be a game changer in 2010 and 2012 (or at least part of the game). These folks are winnable by Republicans.

I agree…. I was shocked at the cop/fire though who are so thoroughly union they’ve voted CA into the shitter (along with teachers — who I would expect to do that out here) and voted for Obama…. even though they themselves are conservative. A lot of cops out here (and I know and work with a LOT of cops out here) voted against the tax-raising props in May even though the Unions pushed them hard. I found that very heartening.
The unions go with the ones who support them. It’s not always democrats. I saw my former union sending out literature for Obama. Since most members are conservative, I suspect they didn’t vote for him anyway. Just a hunch.
Yeah… in Texas most of the cops I worked with/trained were solidly Republican. I think most cops in CA also are Republican at the national level, but have voted Dem in state level. I think that’s changed/changing. I’ve only been out here for 5 years so I don’t have the full grasp yet, but I think it’s dawned on some that if they cut government spending across a wide swath they can maintain their salaries and retirements. Which is OK with me. I’d rather pay a cop making $75K and have a low-paid DMV clerk than have both making $55K
I think the DMV should get paid more. After all, they will be the ones in charge of our health care, right?

I find it difficult to believe that union types are so staunchly democrats. History shows that socialist governments do not like unions. Remember back to Poland and Lech Walesa and all the brouhaha that arose when he unionized the people.
When a country goes full-on socialist, the first thing to go are usually the unions and next are the “intellectuals.” neither of these groups are healthy for a socialist government to keep around. I guess it all goes back to use them till you have to “lose” them.
You know if he can be drawn more into this issue it could be used and used well against him. Its the perfect example of the fact our President is a racist. He must have been foaming at the mouth to say something about it.

I think he spoke stupidly. And by “stupidly”, I mean…well, stupidly.
I didn’t catch all of it, but just before the usual Whitehouse press conf. this morning BHO came out before his press secty. and made some overtures of doing a major backpedal on what he’d said yesterday about the Cambridge police, etc.
