Obama Honoree Has Troubling Past

Mary Robinson is to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama.

Who is she?  Well, she was the president of Ireland, which is fine.  But she also presided over the infamous first Durban Conference, which was justly boycotted by the United States due to it’s blatantly anti-Semitic focus.

Jennifer Rubin goes into more detail at Commentary, here.

The late Tom Lantos, Democrat representative from northern California (and a Holocaust survivor) had this to say about Ms. Robinson:

Mary Robinson’s lack of leadership was a major contributing factor to the debacle in Durban. Her yearning to have a “dialogue among civilizations” blinded her to the reality that the noble goals of her conference had been usurped by some of the world’s least tolerant and most repressive states, wielding human rights claims as a weapon in a political dispute.

In 2002, Michael Rubin of The National Review wrote:

On April 15, Robinson’s commission voted on a decision that condoned suicide bombings as a legitimate means to establish Palestinian statehood (six European Union members voted in favor including, not surprisingly, France and Belgium). The vote came after Robinson initiated a drive to become a fact finder to investigate the now-famous massacre in Jenin (also known as “the massacre that never happened”).

Tevi Troy writes in The Corner:

For the Obama White House to have made this selection could mean one of only two possibilities: that they did not vet and clear the candidates, which suggests a level of incompetence beyond even missing tax evasions by cabinet nominees. Uncaught tax evasion does not come up on Google; Robinson’s record does. The other, more likely, possibility is that they knew and did not care.

Of course they don’t care.  Who will the Jews vote for—Republicans?  That is about as likely as a mass movement of blacks away from the Democratic Party.

What does this choice say about President Obama?  Well at the least, I’d say that he continues giving the impression that he is extremely comfortable with extremists and their enablers.

  • Mike, the Obama people are proving notoriously incompetent at vetting people, at diplomatic gift giving, at shutting up about things like arrests, at convincing the public to buy their garbage. . . etc. Stunning.

I’ve also never seen an administration appoint more incompetents to key positions since the first few weeks of the Clinton Presidency — before they grew up. Think about it, all the tax cheats, the lobbyists, the incompetent Sotomayor, the embarrassing car czar, and now this issue. Idiots.

Come on Mike she’s in favor of eradicating anti-Semitism. Once there are no Jews, there will be no anti-Semitism. Imagine… it’s easy if you try.

    Doesn’t everyone surrounding this man?

Its not incompetence. In the Obama administration, these appointments are a feature not a bug. TRANSFORMATION!!!! CATCH THE FEVAH!!!

  • And tell me again why most American Jews vote Democrat? Gives the whole phrase “self-hating Jew” a whole ‘nother meaning beyond Woody Allen & Larry David.
