trzupr, I find that hard to believe as well (50 knot carrier top speed). I served on a Cruiser and I think its top speed somewhere between 30 and 40 knots.

But I could be wrong.

A hard Port or hard Starboard was a pretty wild ride, but better than that were 30 and 40 foot seas with green water coming over the bow.

Here's a clip of a carrier having that kind of fun. Imagine this in a ship that is only about 700 feet bow to stern. Yeehaw!

[...] Somali pirate dens have become boomtowns swimming in food, women, cars, and large houses. It looks like they need some of this. [...]

That picture of a carrier making a high speed turn is awesome as well. A buddy of mine who served on the Ike swears that Nimitz-class carriers can actually do better than 50 knots, but I still find that hard to believe.

Can't remember the book, but didn't Tom Clancy trot out the Iowa to wipe out some gun emplacements at one point? Awesome stuff. It's good to be Tom Clancy.

ABSOLUTELY BAAAD ASSS! If you've ever seen the A-10 lay down the law with its' 30mm nose mounted canon - it's truly something to behold!

Thanks Kenn

I always thought those planes were incredibly bad-ass. Not as sleek as the F-15's and 22's but incredibly intimidating

A-10 Warthogs/Thunderbolts. One of my favorite aircraft, besides the F-15.

They keep trying to retire these planes - but they're incredibly effective in ground support and they're super survivable.
