I served on a Cruiser and I think its top speed somewhere between 30 and 40 knots. But I could be wrong. A hard Port or hard Starboard was a pretty wild ride, but better than that were 30 and 40 foot seas with green water coming over the bow. Here's a clip of a carrier having that kind of fun. One of my favorite aircraft, besides the F-15. They keep trying to retire these planes - but they're incredibly effective in ground support and they're super survivable. A-10 Warthogs/Thunderbolts.
