I think I’ve figured out what the two trilogies are supposed to be: “Idiocracy in Space”. Everyone in every one of these movies is a moron, or does moronic things. How else can you explain how the whole Jedi Order, who can sense the future, got wiped out in a matter of hours, many of them by one man. How can you explain why pre-Darth Vader was left to die on the lava instead of getting a decapitation to go with all the amputations? How can you explain how Darth never can sense his daughter, even when inches away, but can sense the son?

They’re all emotional idiots. Even the Force is an idiot, what with creating the Messiah on some backwater planet that requires multiple coincidences to get him into a position of power.

    • Raoul, I can answer the question about Leia.

Lucas didn’t decide to make Leia Luke’s sister until the third movie, just like he didn’t know Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker until the second.

      • Um, forgetting Yoda’s “No, there is another.” line, along with Luke reaching out to Leia when hanging from the bottom of Cloud City, Michael? Where’s your source, boy-o? ;-)

        • Source: The Secret History of Star Wars, by Michael Kaminski. He looked at the rough drafts of the screenplays that were published before their sequels, and put them together with remarks Lucas made in interviews at the time.

“There is another,” referred to Luke’s sister—who wasn’t Leia. She was a new character that was supposed to be introduced in the third movie. That would set up the final three movies, where Luke and his sister would defeat the Emperor.

As far as the mental contact with Leia, I’d guess it was because he was in love with her.

I’ll e-mail the book to you if you want it—it’s in an Adobe file.
