We’re Gonna Party Like It’s 1839

Political correctness has always prevented what it would take to correct our issues with Mexico. First would be invasion occupation and States 51-60; the second — more of containment would be the Ranger option. Texas Governor Rick Perry has opted for the second. Stop coming into our state!

“It is an expansive effort with the Rangers playing a more high-profile role than they’ve ever played before,” Perry said of the Department of Public Safety’s elite investigative unit.

The forces, dubbed “Ranger recon” teams, are the latest effort “to fill the gap that’s been left by the federal government’s ongoing failure to adequately secure our international border with Mexico,” he said.

Translation: “The ‘F’ in federal really stands for ‘F%&ked up’. Since Bush and Jesus won’t do anything we’ll take care of it.” Loosely translated of course…

As they ride onto the fray of that battle, I hope the Rangers carry the name of Clayton Moore on their tongues.

Yeah it would be nice if the Federal Government enforced the powers it is actually granted in the Constitution instead of making up new ones all the time to enforce at what mostly appears random whim.

  • Correct my outsider non-Texan ignorance if I’m wrong about this, but wasn’t the initial mandate of the Rangers specifically to scare the hell out of Mexicans?

Pretty much… let’s just say that many 19th century Texas Rangers spent as much time in Mexico as they did in Texas. They also hunted Comanche — I mean protected settlers.

    • They were originally formed to protect settlers from raiding Indian parties (mostly Comanche…who were about as mean as they come). Their origin occurs about he same time as the Republic of Texas and they were a quasi-military organization at first so their task and purpose was a bit sketchy depending on who the President/Governor was at the time.

Look up “One Riot, One Ranger” if you want to see why they are famous or infamous (depending on your point of view of course).

  • Yeah, I’ve read a bit on them and the early days, but I think Floyd gets what I was refering to: a big part of their early mission was “Terrify Mexicans to scare them off and keep the ones who stay from getting upity.”

  • Yeah, I don’t really think so. But if that’s what you’d like to think then go right ahead.

Half the people…well all of the people at the Alamo were “Mexicans”, about half were brown skinned.

Were there racists in the old west? Yep, there sure were, just like there are plenty around now. But I don’t like your implying that the Texas Rangers were a junior KKK…not one bit.

Yeah… the frontier Texan cared about government…. Santa Anna bad — because he was a dictator, Republic of Texas — emphasis on “republic” — good.
