Saw that on twitter yesterday. Genius…

  • Hyperbole and outrage notwithstanding, seriously, how many moderates and democrats are likely to jump ship in ’10? I mean, as SNL pointed out, Obama’s managed exactly NOTHING in nearly a year in office…

  • David Marcoe

We don’t need them to jump ship. We need them to stay home. True moderates, or average voters, or independents will cross party lines. They did it in ’06 and ’08. Right now, by all appearances, they’re pissed and ready to do it again on a scale we haven’t seen in decades.

  • Veruckt

    That is indeed a great sign. One of the protest I was at had a great one that said;

“Elephants and Asses Screwing the Masses”

    That made me happy.

  • David – firstly, it wasn’t rhetorical, but a legitimate inquiry, secondly, we lost becuase moderates jumped ship away from us. If we want to win, we need them to jump ship back to us, yes?

    Veruckt – that’s a good one!

  • David Marcoe

firstly, it wasn’t rhetorical, but a legitimate inquiry…

And I answered in a serious manner. We don’t need Dems to jump ship, for the most part. We need them to do what they appear increasingly willing to do, which is stay home.

secondly, we lost because moderates jumped ship away from us. If we want to win, we need them to jump ship back to us, yes?

When we talk about moderates, we have to talk about several different groups. The first are independents, who do not specific party affiliation. They tend to go where the wind blows. Then you have moderate Democrats, who lean right but still tend to vote Dem. With events over the last year or so, this may change significantly. Then you have moderate GOP, who tend to lean left or stick to the vague “squishy center.” They like to alternate. Then you have the average voter, for whom party affiliation is less important than voting their gut. A lot of people whom we might call “conservative” on their positions fall into this category and more than a few voted for Obama, having soured on the GOP.

When we talk of “moderates” or the “the center” or “non-ideological voters,” that’s the ecology we’re referencing. In all, the left side of that spectrum is pissed at Obama and Congress for doing nothing and the right side of that spectrum is pissed at Obama and Congress for everything they’ve tried to do. One side is going to show up at the polls in droves–if current trends hold–and the other side is going to see more than a few stay home. This pretty much mirrors the farther ends of the spectrum.

To add: Yes, indies and moderates are shifting to the right. That’s been a strong and persistent trend, if polls are to be believed.

Listening to my fav. author on the radio. What a cool dude!

I think holding the Libertarian vote is a must too, every trend shows Libertarians to be a rapidly growing group especially in the 25 to 40 demographic. I’m among them and we mostly want to see the guvment’ stay the hell out of everything. They’re like the overzealous parent who keeps trying to fix everything around the house only to damage it further.

  • Veruckt

Oh this just makes me angry. Apparently Obama is now willing to surrender to…er…work with the Taliban and he’s not going to send the requested troops because he and his advisors know better than the men on the ground. Cowardly, and we’ll be back there to fight again in 10 to 15 years.

Our President has become a man who can not be counted on to stand with our allies. Quite a few Americans are scratching their heads at what his foreign policy is.

    • Kit

Obama: What is this thing people call a “foreign policy”?

Rahm: Well, Mr. President, it is America’s policy for dealing with foreign countries, our approach to threats, how we treat our enemies, how we treat our allies, and what we do in the world regarding world securiy, world trade, etc.

      Obama: . . . No, I still don’t understand.

  • Veruckt

Unfortunately David our President appears to be one of the people scratching his head to figure out his foreign policy.

On a side note David is there a way to contact you through the ModCon website? I need to pick your brain on an issue.

    Go ahead.

  • David Marcoe

Sure. It’s not a perfect list and it isn’t complete. I need to change some of the selections on it. Here it is.

BO has the Rodney King foreign policy :”Wha,wha can’t we all get along?”

This is one of the best comeback lines of all time.

It is a portion of an ABC radio interview between a female broadcaster and General Cosgrove who was about to sponsor a
Boy Scout Troop visiting his military Headquarters.

    FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
So, General Cosgrove, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?

    GENERAL COSGROVE:
We’re going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery and shooting.

    FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
    Shooting! That’s a bit irresponsible, isn’t it?

    GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don’t see why, they’ll be properly supervised on the rifle range.

    FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Don’t you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?

    GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don’t see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.

    FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
But you’re equipping them to become violent killers.

    GENERAL COSGROVE:
Well, Ma’am, you’re equipped to be a prostitute, but you’re not one, are you?

  • rocky sullivan got a 5peat

    way to go rocky!!

    Anyone seen Fritz?

  • I was just listening to NPR and they were going on about the N1H1 virus and vaccination. I am amazed. They are talking about how they were really taken off guard by how early everything started and they will get it out, but it’ll be 3 or 4 weeks. Really? Cause we’ve been talking about it since LAST SPRING. Back over the summer they were talking about how flu season was going to start earlier this year, didn’t they listen to themselves talking?

But I’m sure they’ll handle the rest of health care just fine.

Wouldn’t that be interesting if people not being able to get a hold of a vaccine they’d been promised months ago by people who were using it for political gain caused even more voters to question this health care crap?

It doesn’t bother me, we only selectively vaccinate, flu ain’t on our list but I do wish they’d shut up already about how they weren’t ready yet.

    • Kit

Well, you do not want to rush a flu vaccine. (See 1978 Swine Flu Vaccine Screw-Ups)

      • But they’ve already rushed it(which is one of the reasons we’re opting out). It’s already approved, that was done over the summer. This is just getting it out there. They are apparently surprised by the fact that what they said about early flu season came true. Maybe they think they lie about everything too.
