Bono = Malum

This guy really doesn’t like Bono.

To encounter Bono at one party conference might be construed a misfortune.

To be subjected to a Save The Third World sermon by this runty rock squillionaire at both Labour and Conservative party conferences was enough to make a reasonable man come over all Pete Townsendish and want to snap Bono’s guitar in two.

What is it about this whiny little Dubliner that makes one’s gorge rise?

What is it that makes him feel he can lecture the rest of us about how to spend our tax money, while he himself leads a life of near-unimaginable wealth?

Has he ever been elected? No. Is he particularly eloquent? Nope. He just happens to be exceedingly rich. And famous.

And convinced that he is a figure who can transcend politics and somehow shame us into accepting higher taxes. Because pop singer Bono said so.

I see the guy’s point and go read the whole thing. I still like Bono — I just ignore the rest — the annoying stuff. I never bought anything because a star told me to anyway except I guess movie tickets, albums, and concert tickets.

  • The day Bono and the U2 boys decide to have their deserved earnings taxed in their Ireland home instead of safely placed in a tax sheltered account, I’ll care what they have to say about me and mine. Till then, just gimme noise, please.

South Park discussed this thoroughly not long ago.

If he really didn’t like the guy, he should insist on calling him Paul Hewson instead of using his pretentious mononym.

I don’t give him pretensions on his name. I have friends I call by one name — most of their other friends do too. When they made “Boy” he was 17 or 18 and his friends called him Bono — typical of haughty trying to be cool teens. Once he gets famous as Bono is he then supposed to go back to Paul Hewson? No way… you dance with the date what brung you.

I’m of two minds on this. On the one hand, Bono hasn’t just been a drive-by activist that are so typical of celebrities. He’s been persistent in this, like a dog tirelessly chewing a bone. I’ll also give him credit that the basic message of “let’s help people in need,” as opposed to “let’s kill of segments of the human population to cleanse the Earth,” is fundamentally a good one. And he’s very apolitical in who he’s willing to work with.

On the other hand, the way he wants to do it is ass-backwards and so typical of celebrities. I have an urge to hand him a copy of A Humane Economy and convince him to talk to Dambisa Moyo.

  • Never cared for Mr. Vox or his band of self-important caterwaulers. They’re sort of the antithesis of what Rock is all about, right?

Bono Is in Touch with the heart of the matter. Their is much to say about him that I truly love about him. Most if not all of here haven’t come close to making anything near the contributions that he has to our planet. One.org is a foundation that helps people. He is one of the fonders…
This war of ignorance will continue until YOU and YOU Wake UP…. We are slaves to ignorance and will remain so until each and everyone of us stands up and say’s no more.
The day of payment is now upon all of us..

    • That’s what the tea party movement is about Robert. “No more!” to affirmative action decisions and to government interference on private lives and property. I like Bono too, but he’s hardly the piper I’m going to have to pay.

      Welcome to Threedonia.

HUH? Who are you referring to as ignorant? Most people here are not. I’d say the cadre’ of wealthy spoiled brats, shallow, morons that Bono hangs with are the ignorant ones.
We all get it. Bono is just a mouth piece. Some of his music I liked, some of it is cat vomit. When he decides to pay his fair share of taxes and understand the way the rest of us so called wealthy people who are not wealthy live then his voice will have some real creedence until then the ignorance being spewed by him about who owes what to whom will be virtually ignored if not outright mocked and ridiculed by middle class people who look at gagillion heir a-holes like him and think WTF is wrong with that tool?
