dr zoon and I were talking about how this theory applies in our own lives. Neither of us are excited by exercise for it’s own sake, like weight lifting or running (although many people are), but if you tell us to chase a ball around for 1/2 an hour, we get all excited.

You tell ‘em, No one! Yes, it would be great if all those folks walking up the stairs sounded like the recorded piano that we heard. I’m betting that they used the recorded piece because the actual sound emanating from the stairs would be unbearable. Sure, it would be fun. For a while. After the “fun theory” fades out, the “annoyance theory” fades in.

Now, if they could modify the stairs to sound like a vintage drumset, you know, Radio Kings, or something like that, well, then, you’d really have something!

Yes! Good idea! Perhaps we can get people to sit still for paying more taxes by putting coin slots in their house and rewarding them with a gum drop for every $100. Or maybe have a permanent circus in the hospital waiting room so that when you have to wait 12 hours for NHS service at least you’ll be entertained. Assuming you aren’t in intense pain. Then they could force you to dress up like a clown with floppy shoes to entertain the kids as you writhe on the floor. Weeeeeeee!
