Can anyone tell me the political beliefs of ANY of the NFL owners — including the views of multiple members of the various ownership groups? Beyond that when have the personal political views of ANY potential owner of a professional sports franchise of any professional sport been a litmus test for ownership???

Don’t F*&k with the game Roger Goodell. I’d rather it be crass and commercial with Dallas Cowgirls dancing in cages than political. Politics in sports is Olympic — AND/OR Communist.

Lets see: Most likely Jerry Jones is a Republican. Art Rooney used to be till he met the One (sorry EP), Dan Snyder of the Red Skins is supposed to be a Republican. I am thinking its a pretty conservative circle. Roger Goodell is a friggen jackass. I wish we could tell him he has no right to black ball Rush in this. FU Goodell..

Even worse… on Dan Patrick’s radio show they had a stat that 60% of the NFL owners political contributions went to Dems.

These guys — following the Democratic party line have been bilking tax payers for new stadiums for two decades. Big business and big government.

      Welcome to the new McCarthy-ism.

And last blast on Donovan McNabb… Rush was not the first to bring up McNabb’;s blackness…. Many black sportswriters (most notably William C. Rhoden) have been making careers off of “Black QB” race stories since Doug Williams was with the Bucs back in the late 1970s. Many white sportswriters have too for that matter.

McNabb’s a good QB period — he just doesn’t show up late in the post-season like a lot of other good, but not great, QBs.

    • No need to apologize to me. I reminded friends of Rooney’s self-serving about-face earlier today. Truth may be a mutha, but it’s the truth.

    • Didn’t a Rooney get appointed as ambassador somewhere by Obama? Ireland? The Vatican?

  • I hear Rush is blasting back with both barrels. As he should. This makes me ILL.

Well Berman was wearing his Limbaugh Tie. I wonder how they can actually block someone who has the means to do this? Can’t Rush take these lying pricks to court?

Jones donates pretty heavily toward Republicans, or so I hear. Mike Brown in Cincinnati does. I always assumed most owners donated Republican, but like most billionaires, I imagine they have the same proto-statist and corporatist tendencies. Most Wall Street barons voted for Obama by the way, or so the press so often forgets.

This is all going back to the Limbaugh/McNabb incident. Ralph Wiley, one of the best sportswriters of his generation (who happens to be black by the way, and God rest his soul, Page 2 hasn’t been the same since) said Rush was right, but he targeted the wrong quarterback (think more along the lines of Kordell Stewart). I think Wiley was right. But Limbaugh, as usual, got in trouble for saying what everyone else was thinking. Anyone that remembers the excoriation John Elway took over losing three Super Bowls knows what I’m talking about. McNabb took nowhere near that level of heat nationally, especially given his grand chokejob in the Super Bowl when he forgot how to run a two-minute offense. But most writers saw McNabb carrying mediocre teams to the championship game, not a choke job, and he was given a lot of slack. The fact he was black in a brutal town to play sports helped his cause.

With black players so upset, Michael Wilbon was cheering this as some grand returning moment of activism like the 1968 Olympics and it wouldn’t have happened without our anointing of hopeandchange in the White House. Ironic since Obama played the race card left and right in the campaign before going full-bore with the “bitter, clinger” comment, then having the resident Super Champs from that area handing the guy the gameball – where was the controversy in that? If Rush is a racist, what do we call Obama? Snob seems too kind.

Pro sports owners are a horrendously insular club. Rush’s chances would be much better if he was retired from radio. As long as he’s on the air and earning the ire of someone, he’s nothing the league wants to touch.

I know Rush loves the NFL, but it’s obvious the NFL doesn’t love him back. Whether the Rooneys banning him from Steelers practices, the McNabb incident or this, he should find something more worth his time. The PGA loves him to death – spend your money there. And given the socialistic mess the current NFL is, no wonder college ball is passing it in popularity.

John even if what you say is right, what they are doing is illegal is it not? They can’t bar someone who has the kwan to buy a team if he wants to. If Hitler wanted to buy a team he could. They need to let go and surrender their fantasys.

Stephanie, I don’t think it’s illegal as a private organization to vote on someone’s membership. Floyd, what say you? I found this description – “The National Football League (NFL), a nonprofit association under Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended…”

This argument over private organizations being sued surfaced with the Boy Scouts denying gay scouts from being a part of their organization. I think the lawsuit failed because the private group (in this case the Boy Scouts) could determine their own rules for membership.

As for Rush, when you make your living throwing stones, don’t be surprised when you are not invited into glass houses.

    • I think you’re right, BarryO, that NFL owners are free to allow or disallow any potential buyer.

But they should be prepared to face the wrath of half the country.

      Good to see you commenting!

Barry O we already know that if Bill Maher said Rush sacrificed African American babies in his backyard you’d believe it…when you knew it wasn’t true so your opinion means not. You hate Rush period. He is successfu, your not. He worked hard for his money and you are still waiting for Obama’s second stimulus check which incidently most likely CAME OUT OF MY WALLET! You are supporting FASCISM which is what you just said in not so many words! Not American enterprise or capitalism. I have no respect for you or your anti American anti first amendment comments. I am sick of you people. Truly. You whine, you cry, you carp. You have never done a damned thing to make the country better you just sit and wait for someone to save your worthless hide.
