My wife doesn’t allow these new lightbulbs into our home. She claims the “color” of the light is no good. Being a man, I can distinguish 5 distinct colors, and two of those are “sunlight” and “darkness.” So, I’ve just gone with her judgement (good advice for any of you aspiring husbands). I recently was in two different hotels and I noticed the light seemed insufficient in the foyers of both rooms. I looked up, and in both cases there were squiggly bulbs overhead. I can’t speak to the color, but the light sucked. If I can tell the difference this is an epic failure. This is the eight track tape of illumination.
Stosh has an interesting theory on the light-bulb thingy. The old-style incandescent bulbs generate heat. Not a lot, but measurable. The new-fangled fluorescent bulbs generate almost no heat. Thus, those of us who live in northern climes will use more natural gas to heat our homes in the fall/winter/early spring. Will this increased natural gas use offset the energy savings with switching bulbs? Haven’t seen any studies, but it’s certainly a possibility.
I can only use those, I believe they are called “True Light” bulbs from Phillips. They’re a sort of white light. I’m partially color blind (especially cruel for an artist)but white light allows me to see some colors more clearly. Under yellow or fluroscent lighting colors all run together and I can’t see very well since color blurring also messes with depth perception, this causes me to get horrendous headaches and eye strain. It’s one of many reasons I’m looking so forward to the government ban on all non-”green” light bulds. At that point the government will not only be responsible for being an endless pain in my ass they’ll also be responsible for my persistent headaches. Good times.
V – There are “full spectrum” fluorescent bulbs out there. Supposedly (I can not verify this) they produce a full range of light and solve the headache problem for many who can’t tolerate “normal” fluorescent light. Don’t know if you’ve looked into this, but it might be worth a shot. Alternately, I can sell you a couple from our stock of hoarded incandescents – FOR A PRICE!
Today is Child Death Awareness and Remembrance Day. I go with that name over the more pc and palatable Pregnancy and Child Loss Day, which is at the very least redundant (is my pro-life showing? sorry ).
If you know anyone who has lost a child of any age, during pregnancy or after birth, please at least pray for them today, or tell them you are thinking of them. It doesn’t matter if it was 50 years ago or yesterday, a parent’s heart never forgets.
This was my FB update for today and is on my blog:
I am thinking about and praying for the mothers worldwide who have been touched by child death, through miscarriage, stillbirth and beyond. Although it seemed, at times, a grace too hard to bear, it *was* grace that allowed me to know my precious little ones, Lael, Rose and Joseph. Please pray for the moms you know who have been touched by a tiny person who left footprints on their hearts, but didn’t stay in their arms.
My blog also has a picture of Joseph’s hand for today, so be forewarned, some may find it disturbing. I think it’s beautiful.
Black market light bulbs could be a booming market in the near future. You could be onto something there. Though I will look into the full spectrum fluorescent lighting, hopefully it won’t still make that horrible buzzing noise.
But, but…CFL’s create jobs because when they burn out they must be recycled due to the mercury content!
So they are doubly green, right? Is that the logic?
Bret just announced on Fox that the little boy who was thought to be in the balloon has been found hiding in a box in the garage attic of his home.
I think I can unclench now.
Should have heard Hugh Hewitt talking about it today. It was like an episode of Ralphie Randy Parker of a Christmas Story. He was saying you know his brothers put him up to it. HA!
I’ve only played a lawyer in A View from the Bridge, Steph, but sounds like a quick approval by a Dem-stacked Congress is all the President needs to accept.
It actually sounds good to me. I don’t think it will make a hill of beans to this President, but it looks bad when our leader — or our President rather — accepts these kinds of gifts. We don’t want him to be beholden to some other power.

Awesome! I love my federal government!

Tracy – I for one found that picture touching and beautiful. As was your comment.

V-
The full spectrum lights are pretty good. But the buzzing noise in a flourescent light is the ballast going out, not the bulb.

I have no idea what you’re talking about, but it sounds like it has a happy ending.

Well hubby read the article and was thinking that it was a problem for Obama and might not be Constitutional.
Obama is above the constitution.
HE is above all.
