According to the commentary on the DVD of OUATITW, the original plan was to have the 3 baddies who get gunned down by Bronson in the beginning be played by Eastwood, Van Cleef and Wallach. Although I think that would have been over the top, it’s an interesting idea to ponder.
Would have completely and utterly changed a scene that was already perfect. Glad it didn’t happen.
ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST: One of the Greatest Movie Trailers of All Time.
“The Boom Towns”
Chris Yogerst underrates this film. It is definitely in the top three in my opinion. And if he doesn’t put ‘River Of No Return’ on his list I will lose respect for him as a film critic.
Claudia Cardinale…HUBBA HUBBA!
I don’t have anything as formal as a top 10 list of westerns, but far and away my favorite is “The good, the bad and the ugly.” Also quite fond of “A big hand for the little lady,” “The Outlaw Josie Wales,” “The Undefeated,” (WHich is basically a somewhat more romantic version of the same basic story as Wales),”The Searchers”, “Stagecoach”, and, arguably, “Bad Day at Black Rock” and “The Road Warrior,” which is a spagetti western in tone and theme, if not in physical reality.
