Agreed Rufus. We'll never change the Federal government until we elect a state government who has a pair.

Spot on, G-Man, but expecting anyone to relinquich power and control is a pipe dream. The only answer is for the States to stand-up and fight for what is legitimately theirs. We continue to focus on our Federal Congressmen and women, and are shocked when they act Federally. Focus on your State Legislators and Governors and ask them why they are allowing the Feds to trample them. That's the key. When a few States start doing it the other States will follow. We need a few strong Governoners backed by Constitutionally motivated legislatures right now. Right NOW!

I don't know of a single doctor who is not legitimately frustrated with private insurance and medicare paperwork. It is an abomination.

Anything with a government stamp or regulation on it increases costs.

HIPAA is one the most ridiculous pieces of crap to ever come down the pike. The hoops we have to jump through to get proper care for our grandmother, who has Alzheimers, is just silly. It also makes it really difficult for my husband to take care of paperwork for me with my medical stuff. It really pisses me off that the government would actually help me hide my depression or addiction from my family. They NEED that information. I hadn't thought about it increasing health care costs, but it makes sense. I have to sign about twice as much paper work at every dr appt, that's gotta be sorted and filed and copied etc. And it really hasn't improved my privacy that much. You still have to wait in a waiting room, so in my psychiatrists office, I know who her patients are, and basically what they are seeing her about (she treats only specific conditions). I don't care, cause I'm in there too. It's useless and expensive, no wonder the government thought it was fabulous.

BTW, most of my drs think it's crap too.

On these lines if anyone has any questions on the healthcare front fire away since this is right in my wheelhouse.

On a side note the HIPAA laws have been ridiculously destructive to healthcare. They have required massive cost to providers and insurers (which we kindly passed to the consumer)to meet the standards and have limited patient's access to their own information. These laws have been especially painful to the elderly who frequently are unable to understand or handle their own affairs but HIPAA makes it impossible for anyone else to assist them without the patient jumping through hoops and filling out forms first. More ridiculous meddling.
