We appreciate equally all of our thousands of readers and our dozens of commenters…. I mean really it’s like choosing between children — you do it you just don’t tell them which one and of course they all know which one is the favorite and which one is the red-headed step child.

I say all that to say this. We have been noodling over how to expand the franchise a bit or raise our profile above the general white noise of these here Interwebs. The gang has been talking over how to brand ourselves and we honestly don’t know. What say you dear readers? This is not a tongue bath to get you to comment (where IS Mike?), but a bleg for a nice pithy description to answer the question: “What is Threedonia?” If you don’t like us then please shut your pie-hole because that’s unhelpful. We’re not looking for critique here in this thread (critique — constructive — is always welcome, but use the Open Threads for that). What would you tell someone who has never heard of Threedonia why you read us?

If you rarely comment why do you come here? (I guess it is a beg for comments — but only for a larger purpose! :-) ) if you come here regularly and comment — you know who you are — why? Clarity and brevity are the buzzwords for this bleg. Thank you for your help.

  • YOU’VE been noodling. I’ve been pondering. Much more dignified.

    But that was not criticism…

  • And what exactly do you mean by “white noise”, you racist bastard?

  • Kit

Well, it is an excellent place for conservative commentary on the day’s events. It is readable by the average human being.

But beware, the humour can be a bit crude (We know who we are!) And beware the Floyd-bombs.

  • Floyd

I thought if I said “black noise” people would think I was talking about rap music and I didn’t want to go there… like I just did.

Personally, I’ve got AceofSpades for my general NSFW stuff, RedState for my more inside baseball stuff, Instapundit for my more breaking news – Threedonia is the place I come that’s sort of a mix – you’ve got your occasional babe, your not-overly-wonky-but-still-deep political analysis, and it’s not the kinda place that’s gonna set the blood a boilin’. That’s where Michelle Malkin comes in. Oh, and I love movies. So, maybe, “Threedonia – that neighborhood bar where you settle in with a cool one after a long day in the blogosphere.” Or something.

  • JS Lawalin

I’m with Jake. This place is a humorous potpourri of things to talk about – politics, culture and boobs. GIRL BOOBS. Kinda like a virtual barber shop.

  • *I* am Carla. ;) One of my favorite lines of hers, “a good looking man can walk past me and I’m 3 months pg” . Not complaining.

I tell my friends yall are a cultural blog with a conservative view point. You don’t cover any of it in depth, but you have an informed and (sometimes) intelligent opinion on all of it, and can point to the places that do.

I also tell them that yall are great to the people who comment. They’re still scared, but I tell them you’re nice anyway.

I like the controlled randomness of Threedonia

Where else could you read a post about The Jesus and Mary Chain AND get fed a steady diet of Wanks Hot Fox News men on the same day.

So when does Mike get out of rehab? When Red Sox season begins next year?

  • Scott M.

    Guess I’m Norm’s bar stool…ouch!

  • Scott M.

    Hey,where’s Fritz?

While some might consider Threedonia the bar where you settle in at the end of the day, for me its the start of my pub crawl. I usually come here first because of its variety and then off I go in whatever random direction the writers and commenters send me.

At the same time, its where I return when I want to share some bit of news I might have picked up. The conservative tilt is a breath of fresh air for me, not just from the internet, but from my life. I work in a very liberal field, with very liberal people and in a very liberal state. Threedonia goes down smooth, is easy to digest but still leaves you full and the next day you just want some more.

In the CHEERS analogy, who am I?

  • Dooley

You appeal to my bias. You have some smart stuff made simple – today’s health care breakdown for example. You don’t take yourselves too seriously. You’re funny and I always look forward to your pop culture bits.

Of course, someone needs to be Al, the old drunk who got one line every other show. Usually a good line, though.

on the down side, you aren’t well known enough to attract trolls…oh wait…that’s on the up side as well. I like the idea of the corner blog bar. Cheers doesn’t seem quite right…Gilley’s in Urban Cow Pie isn’t right…

Hmm…”What Is Threedonia” is a toughie. I’m late to this thread due to the nagging need to earn a living and too tired to read the other comments.

I’d say Threedonia is the perfect blend of conservative commentary on American culture and politics. I truly enjoy the perspective of all the personae. You each have something truly unique to say. Sure, like many conservative sites you seem to have the same influences but your life experience gives y’all that certain je ne sais quoi. (Just want to prove that the time I spent in French class in college wasn’t a total waste.)

As for how to brand Threedonia? I really have to say that the header got my attention as I love the Marx Bros. – but it was the contribution of each Threedonia columnist/poster that keeps me coming back. I have recommended Threedonia to others and described it as a conservative blog like no other: insight from real people who think and know how to write. Each of you has a unique perspective that is really thought provoking AND most of the time very funny. Sometimes you’re downright profound. Not only do you welcome comments from readers you also make them feel welcome!

I don’t know how that might help you brand but I ask this: don’t go changin’ to try to please me. I love you just the way you are.

  • Who will be Harry the Hat? The card sharking crook who frequented the bar a few times.

  • Darn…I had a welcome home 5 peat going till Rocky Sullican blew me out of the water!

  • Kevin S

    not Cheers…the White Hart…from Arthur Clarke’s short stories…

  • I started out at Dirty Harry’s. When he went to BH, it drew too many trolls, so I moved here. I have little time for blogging, so I rarely go anywhere else. I don’t like crowds, and love the home-town feel here. Everyone has a sense of humor and strangers are always welcome. The humor helps me cope with the dreaded course of the Zero administration and the 111th congress.
Welcome back, Fritz. You’ve been missed.
    Cheers!

  • I like the non-linear, organic quality of this blog. Too many sites are too focused on a particular issue, and it ends up being two dimensional. You read a few posts and comments here and quickly get an idea of where people are coming from. Politically conservative? Check. Love Jesus? Check. Like the occasional boobie/fart joke? Check. Like sports? Check. Above-average intelligence? Check. Culturally sophisticated? Check. I little geeky, but in a good way? Check. Think the US Armed Forces rock? Check. You appeal to a lot of folks out there, but unfortunately those folks are a lot like my husband – they don’t have time to read you. A small, local bar is a good analogy, but I would be disappointed if you guys got a LOT more exposure, publicity, and visibility. Then “Cheers” might turn into a sports bar chain, and that would be a drag.

Wow – a bit flattered here. Having said that, I’m a little jealous I didn’t come up with JS Lawalin’s “virtual barber shop.” I like that a lot too.

And G-Man, funny, I had the exact same experience – started at Dirty Harry’s, loved it, followed John Nolte to Big Hollywood, but it just isn’t the same feel – Threedonia is the closest I’ve found to recreating that semi-intimate space, largely free from the trolls that infest BH, where you can get a nice mix of pop culture, conservative thinking and eye-candy (for all tastes) with a sense of humor.

  • Stosh from da Sticks

    Family loyalty (just kidding).

But, a lot like G-Man (and JT) above, I started out at Libertas and found 3D from a link there. When DH moved to Brietbart’s site, I continued to check it out, but seldom posted (just too massive an operation; comments seem to get lost in enormous threads), but really developed more of an affinity for the more intimate idiocy of Threedonia.

Plus the major figures provide a nice mix of serious topics, wacky oddball stuff, quality music videos and an odd fascination with toast.

  • Floyd take note: 50 responses and not one of them says “I come here in hopes of seeing man boobs”.

You might want to write that down.

  • I like the idea of a barbershop, but aren’t there too many girls here for that? And where’s the awesome harmony in song? Loves me some barbershop music. (Not fond of man boobs or vulgar tatts.)

I come here because you answer my stupid questions and let me make snide remarks. And I can quote anything from My Fair Lady to Lady Gaga and someone will know what I’m talking about. You’re like Nerdfighters, but somewhat more mature – in physical age, anyway. I also appreciate that there are few enough commenters and posters that I can get to “know” your different voices.
