Where Are They Now: Steve Gut(t)enberg

steve-guttenberg

Steve discusses his career with his agent

There was a decade when it was a California law that this guy appear in every film shot within the state boundaries.  I haven’t heard or seen him for two decades.  Wha happened?  And, even more importantly, is there a chance this same thing can happen to Will Ferrel and Ben Stiller?  ‘Cause if so, I’m all for it.

  • Screw Steve Gutenberg, what ever became of the leading lady who co-starred with him in”The Man Who Wasn’t There?” Hubba hubba (or so I recall) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RN3gT8xUPKg I never saw her in anything else, though obviously I saw a lot of her in this…

  • He’s underneath Homer’s boulder.

  • JimmyC

It’s pretty amazing how fast he fell out of the spotlight, especially considering that, according to IMDB:

“…Guttenberg has been the above-the-title star of six films that earned over $100,000,000 in the United States, a feat accomplished by relatively few superstars. He has also starred in four film franchises, appearing in such sequeled smash hits as Cocoon (1985), 3 Men and a Baby (1987), Police Academy (1984), and Short Circuit (1986), taking his films’ box-office grosses into the billions.”

If that’s not good enough to keep your career going in Hollywood, then what is?

  • All I can assume is that he must have become a conservative.

Oh dear. According to Wiki his recent exploits include:

“In early November 2008, allegedly Guttenberg was filmed jogging semi-naked through Central Park, New York.”

He then “went on to become the Guinness World Record Holder for preparing the most hot-dogs in one minute.”

  • He’s most likely in the same place I’ve been for a while…oblivion. Sorry I disappeared for a bit 3D friends. Had a lot going on, and everytime I kicked over to 3D you all had it so well covered, I felt like there was nothing I could add. I’ve been busy working with a couple of groups to unseat the illustrious “Favorite Son of a *****” of the great state of Nevada, Harry Reid. That has been keeping me pretty busy. Hopefully, if we are successful, you can make a post here at 3D titled, “Where Are They Now:Harry Reid?”

Thanks to the infamous Floyd R. Turbo, I have made my way back. I’ve totally ignored my adoptive son Mike, his real dad..Rufus T. Firefly, and all the rest. Sorry Eric, for the lack of comments on Kostya’s work, as well as Mr. E Pluribus’ work, but I did watch them and thought their input brilliant as always. Anyway, after a much needed rest (drug rehab)(I jest), I’m back, baby!

May your attempt to bring down Harry Reid be a triumph! I’m so sick of these senator and representative types who can screw up the entire country, mess up MY life but can’t feel the wrath of my vote. So HUZZAH to Fritz!

Welcome back. Your avatar always makes me smile.

  • Glad to be back. I had to go through rehab for a sexual addiction. They said to stay off 3D for a while because I was spending too much time alone on here late at night and it wasn’t normal.

  • Kit

He was in a Poseidon Adventure tv-movie remake 4-5 years ago.

just quibbling…but isn’t the photo of Woody Harrelson?

  • The thing is, Senior Gutenbergo was always a spectacularly bland leading man, you know? Handsome and all, but no particular spark, no particular charisma. His inexplicably successful carrer had more to do with – I always suspected – dumb luck and coincidence than anything else. He’s a slightly better prototype version of Keanu Reeves.

  • That said, I *would* pay cash money to see “No soap, Radio!” again…

Stevey Gutes? He was recently in Mojave Phonebooth, a fabulous indy film where he plays a small but prominent role as a sexual deviant. Great work. A friend of mine recently ran into him at a Starbucks on the west side of Manhattan by the park and he gushed and Steve was a really great sport about the whole thing.
