Thanks, Tracy. Glad to be back too. I left Kriskey at the Chickenranch, because he said he wasn’t finished with his glass of “Redeye” whatever that’s supposed to mean.
I’m trying to keep it clean for the ladies, Eric. We know what it means, but Kriskey had his beer goggles on the last I saw of him. Love in bloom and all that crap, ya know?
That’s why I didn’t put a hubba hubba there. Very average. She’s a great symbol for Hollywood myth-making though. When her schtick got old she married rich and retired after 4 or 5 years of films.
I used to be very good, but I drink my beer more slowly these days. However, I’d like to think I can still slam a pint in one swig if necessary. I have no doubt I could best those two lightweights.
From the “wish I’d said it first” file:
@jimgeraghty Which will General McChrystal receive first, the additional troops he requested or Social Security?
More of a concern than what it means in upcoming elections is what it means to our fellow citizens in country. “Screw the pooch” invariably means a lot of them don’t come home. I pray our Commander in Chief acts to keep them safe.
Kit, that’s theatricality. It get and keeps people’s attention. I actually like what I’ve seen of him. My one concern is that he gives an accurate picture.
I’ll write a post about him soon. I’ve intended to for quite some time. He intrigues me. He’s been walking a tightrope for quite some time. Most who attempt to do what he is doing self-destruct, and he’s lasted much longer than I expected. It’s a very dangerous game he is playing, but I believe he understands that, and, he just may be the real deal. I have heard him, off and on, for about 10 years now, and I have to admit, he’s fooled me more than once. He continues to surprise me.
I think what Rufus means Steph is that Beck is setting himself up as a target – a target as big as Rush. The lefties are going to try to find something, anything – personal or public – to smear him with. Hell, I have a pile of skeletons in my closet from my misbegotten youth. We all do. Just getting him on something that happened in college would be a “victory” for these hateful SOBs. I’d hate to be in his position, but I’m glad he’s there, doing what he’s doing.
I do mean that, but that’s the lesser of the two things I’m concerned about. It is very, very difficult for someone to hold a megaphone for as long as he’s held it, in as public a forum as he’s holding it without falling from grace. Time and time again we see celebrities, athletes, news casters, religious leaders… achieve success and power and then abuse that power, or collapse in on themselves. Look at Rather and the faux faxes, Rush and the oxycontin, Kennedy and Clinton and their dalliances, Fallwell, Swaggert, Kobe, Johnathon Edwards, Morton Downey… For at least two years now Glenn Beck has been very publicly and vocally fighting the good fight at an incredible pace. I can’t think of anyone I’ve seen walk the wire this long. Maybe Tiger Woods… Maybe Joel Olsteen…
So one part is his past and his family’s present. All too often we’d see one of his kids staggering out of a nightclub, or a wife saying something/doing something outrageous in public, or a skeleton from his past pops up. The second part is his ability to keep the game going at this level, this long without a mis-step. The guy talks extemperaneously to millions of people for four hours a day, 5 days a week. You would think a Iman-esque mis-step would have trickled from his mouth by now, or, like Rather, he’d get greedy and jump on a rumor that doesn’t pan out.
Rufus I think he has one daughter of age and two that are barely out of diapers..so unless one of the toddlers learns the f word and repeats it….I think we’re safe. Also his family is out of sight. I think I maybe one might want to give him a break here. Rafe the boy they adopted is like 3. The wife…I wouldn’t know what she looks like or know her if she bite me. THe oldest eh…trust me there are no Levi Johnsons lurking. But there is always the word but…kind of like yeah but…hence the problems most people have. Yeah but stops a lot of good from going on doesn’t it? Let Beck be be Beck. If he didn’t know that he would be a target he wouldn’t be doing this. He told his family that would happen. They are prepared….I see nothing to worry about. He is a recovering alcoholic……they can’t use that against him. So?????
From what he says, and how he behaves I would assume he has a strong family and he and they are well aware of the dangers involved with his chosen profession. I’m not really talking specifically about Beck, just black and white statistics. It’s the “tall poppy syndrome.” Whenever anyone sticks up too high above the fray, for too long, they get smacked down. Regardless of who Beck is, or how he lives his life, or what his family is, or isn’t, it’s like watching a man dance on a tightrope for two years, with no net, and someone has lit both ends of the rope on fire.
I think Tiger Woods is a good example. When is the last time we’ve seen an athlete garner the publicity he has, for so long, without something knocking him or her from the pedastel? That’s a big part of the fascination with Woods. How can he be so elite? Beck is doing something similar. It simply seems statistically impossible to do what he is doing. Something’s got to give. But, as I wrote earlier, I’ve guessed wrong about Beck before. This guy just may be the real deal.
Mine are more like court jesters. Kit what are your skeletons. Don’t throw stones if you live in a glass house. Just sayin. Talking like this in my opinion has a subtext of I hope this happens which is why I like being the one to poo poo it. It doesn’t do anyone any good and it distracts us from the issues.
As far as Beck goes, he told his family he’d be a target. He has said this on his show.
I’m definitely not hoping. I actually like being proven wrong. Every so often a real, true heroic figure comes along. It would be very interesting if this is one of those times. Much more interesting than if it isn’t. I do believe Tiger Woods is one of those figures. Jack Nicklaus is. Jimmy Stewart was. Grace Kelly was. I love it when folks defy the odds. Let’s hope Beck pulls it off!
a guy at work who voted Obama (I think…I know he didn’t like McCain and bought into that “one heartbeat away” bullshit), bought Glenn Beck “How to Argue With idiots” and loves it.
I think I’m the only one still awake…
Have dragged in to complain, that I had to sit through Obamaganda today during General Hospital and The Office.
Simply terrifying.
Finally, someone is clearly explaining to us, the taxpayers, exactly what is happening inside that mysterious, gigantic, corrupt political system we have. We, the working middle class, have always been afraid of the machine, and I think the politicians/criminals wanted it that way. With their pompous, pious faces and sneaky hands, they have been stealing and lying. We were too busy raising children, working and going to church to have time to research them. Now, finally, one man has done it. Cracked the Code. Exposed the Fraud. Shone the Light on the Basement Rats! Now, the rats are all scurrying around, all nervous. They are calling The Man With The Flashlight names. Mean names. Squeak! Squeak!
Fritz is back!! I’m happy. Mike is still AWOL and apparently enjoys disappointing his fan.
Thanks, Tracy. Glad to be back too. I left Kriskey at the Chickenranch, because he said he wasn’t finished with his glass of “Redeye” whatever that’s supposed to mean.
Chickenranch. Redeye. You know damn well what that means.
I’m trying to keep it clean for the ladies, Eric. We know what it means, but Kriskey had his beer goggles on the last I saw of him. Love in bloom and all that crap, ya know?
Fair enough. I really need to work on cleaning up my act.
Theda Bara, right?
Some beauties don’t really stand the test of time, imho.
That’s why I didn’t put a hubba hubba there. Very average. She’s a great symbol for Hollywood myth-making though. When her schtick got old she married rich and retired after 4 or 5 years of films.
Not so sure about that oufit but at least you’d know what you were getting.
And yet you look at the Gibson Girl, who was *before* Theda Barra, and she’s pistol-hot. Interesting phenomenon.
Wonder what Freud would say about the “asterisk marks the spot” design on that frock?
Probably that the costume designer had an oedipal complex.
It’s a nice use of band-aids.
I just watched the George Wendt/Bill Schultz Chugg off on “Red Eye.” I could clean both their clocks. Very unimpressive.
Maybe Modern Drunkard could have you and I on one of their classic Drink Offs, with their play-by-play account style of reportage.
I used to be very good, but I drink my beer more slowly these days. However, I’d like to think I can still slam a pint in one swig if necessary. I have no doubt I could best those two lightweights.
From the “wish I’d said it first” file:

That’s hilarious! Like there is going to be money in Social Security when any of us retire!
bwah! that’s why you’re the boss here, and I’m just the eye-candy.
Thank heaven for eye-candy.
G-MAN,
Suck-up duly noted. *smooch*
If Obama screws the pooch in Afghanistan, I think it may mean either McChrystal or Petraeus will run against him in 2012.
More of a concern than what it means in upcoming elections is what it means to our fellow citizens in country. “Screw the pooch” invariably means a lot of them don’t come home. I pray our Commander in Chief acts to keep them safe.
Barack Milhouse Obama….how much you want to bet Barky has an enemies list already…some of us might be on it!
I am watching GLENN BECK, he is . . . interesting. He seems a wee bit . . . eccentric?
Kit, that’s theatricality. It get and keeps people’s attention. I actually like what I’ve seen of him. My one concern is that he gives an accurate picture.
Kit he is who he is. Listen to him….just shut out the other junk and listen to him. He gives an accurate picture as David says. Scary huh?
I’ll write a post about him soon. I’ve intended to for quite some time. He intrigues me. He’s been walking a tightrope for quite some time. Dangerous? How so?

We all have skeletons in our closet.
The above comment was a response to Tzrupek, who claimed he had a skeleton in his closet.
I happen to have a couple of dead clowns and a mime. Time to take up amateur taxidermy…

Tiger Woods has done it for so long because only rich snobs care about galf.
My shame is I told my folks I played piano in a whorehouse because I didn’t want to admit I was a helicopter pilot.
I’m not complaining, Steph, just observing.
I enjoy his show and watch it often.
His “theatricality” as David put it, is part of the appeal I have.
In fact, I have two of Glenn Beck’s books (INCONVENIENT BOOK and COMMON SENSE).
Me wife just finished Beck’s latest. Can’t wait to take it to work tomorrow for lunch-time reading.

Victoria Jackson on Beck (from Big Hollywood):
