What a way to make a point! =)

It must be an interesting neighbourhood! I wouldn’t mind living there . . . if I could be armed to the teeth!

  • Scott M.

How many American lives do we have to flush down that shithole called Afghanistan?I’m sorry, but our sons and daughters should not shed another drop of blood for these animals….wiping Afghanistan and Pakistan off the face of the earth would be a blessing

    • Rufus

      Scott M.,

I truly hope there are no more American deaths in Afghanistan, but we are not just doing this for their benefit. This has tremendous potential to make us safer here, and, having another country in the region that can be used to quickly establish foreign bases is very convenient, and a good deterrent to the nutjobs in the neighborhood.

  • Veruckt

Pardon my language while I get all southern here but we really are at “shit or get off the pot” point with Afghanistan. We have a President who is spineless and unable to make a decision (60 days to decide on a troop request?? Plus it will still have to go through appropriations once he is done) and if we aren’t going to fight this to win then lets tell the Taliban “you win” pull our guys out tell our troops that we’re sorry about the whole dying for nothing thing. Then we can stand back and watch Afghanistan and Pakistan both fall under Taliban and Al Qaeda control, let them get control of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal. Let them then set their sites to the disputed regions of India, then all of India. Let them take control of North Africa, god knows the African Union doesn’t have the strength to fight them. Then we can watch as Muslim hardliners continue to flood from North Africa into Spain, Greece, France, and England and hell in 20 years we won’t even recognize this planet since a good portion of the world will be wearing burkas and chanting “death to America”.

I’ve never seen such a gathering of nitwits and cowards as what we have in Washington right now. They don’t even recognize our enemy when they’re shooting at us.

    Yes, I’m angry today.

    • Rufus

“I’ve never seen such a gathering of nitwits and cowards as what we have in Washington right now.”

You need to open a history book. There have been no shortage of nitwits and cowards in our Federal government throughout history.

In the ’40’s Joe Kennedy owned half of Hollywood and all of Wall Street and he used his influence to speak out against U.S. involvement in WWII. Charles Lindbergh was Tiger Woods and George Clooney all rolled into one and he traveled the country, using his celebrity to sway public opinion against stopping the Nazis.

      • blackhawk12151

I agree Rufus. It is easy for us to think that there has never been a worse administration but the truth is there have been a lot of dipshits passing through Washington in this nation’s history.

        • Rufus

That’s why I keep hammering the point about the States’ need to take control of their own governance. When you have a local dipshit it’s a lot easier to manage him or her. Government workers work for us, they are our employees and we pay their salaries. I have no authority over Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi or Lindsey Graham yet they have a lot of authority over me! I thought our country fought a war to end taxation without representation?

      • I feel I must interject that once the war got going Mr. Lindbergh traveled to the South Pacific where he instructed P-38 fighter squadrons on ways to conserve fuel so they could get greater range. Indirectly contributing to the downing of Admiral Yamamoto, by same said P-38 Lightnings. To make a long story even longer, he wasn’t a total waste of o2…like some we could name.

  • Not sure that sign is the “Christian” thing to do. Nice azaleas though.

Scott, those Soldiers are not giving their time, sweat, blood and sometimes lives for Afghanistan…they do it for you. We fight them there so we don’t face them here…again.

The thing that is most aggravating is the way I see this thing coming to an end. That is with the administration and his allies in congress finding a way to quit. This will only embolden those we currently fight and they will eventually hit us again, HERE. I only hope they don’t get their hands on nukes. God help us all if they do.

    • Rufus

Amen, Outlaw. The rest of the world is watching this, and will learn from what we do. We’ve already demonstrated our military can win in tough, house to house fighting in hostile territory, like Iraq. Everyone knows we can overpower anyone militarily if we choose to do so. But, Afghanistan may teach them that they can win a long, protracted battle against the U.S. if they outwait our spineless politicians. If that happens the results will be a lot more American civilians killed in acts of terrorism, like we had in the 90’s and 2001.

Look at France and England. They have totally ceded control of their lives and freedoms to “counter-terrorism” measures. There are cameras and concrete barrers everywhere. They are canaries living in gilded cages.

  • I watched this news broadcast last night:
    http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=5427580n
I think Outlaw is right. They’ll be looking for a way to quit. Stupid, spineless Washington.

  • Veruckt

Outlaw I agree 100%, thus my frustration, I could see them trying to bow out by “negotiating” with the Taliban (sort of the same way Germany “negotiated” with us at the end of WW2). The thing we can’t forget is above all things they want to hit the US, the fact that they haven’t is a credit to those who work to protect us. There is no room for negotiation with fanatics like these there is only annihilation. We need to take the gloves off, send in about 60,000 or 70,000 more troops, tell Pakistan “We’re coming over. Deal with it.”, send the press home, and get to the business of fighting this war instead of trying to legislate it and win it through a hostile press.

I sometimes wonder if Obama is naive, just wrong or actually working against our national interests on purpose.

Obama’s speech in Florida a couple of days ago made me ill: “I will never rush the solemn decision of sending you into harm’s way. I won’t risk your lives unless it is absolutely necessary.”

Meaning what? Those who are in theater now are expendable? That they can just wait in some holding pattern without the help they need? That Bush 43 sent troops there on a whim?

Our enemies and our allies are watching. Our enemies are patient. Our allies know that our politicians are sometimes willing to cut and run. How long might it take us to earn the respect and aid of our allies in the future should we fail them now?

    • That Bush 43 sent troops there on a whim?

      I’m going with that one.

I sometimes wonder if Obama is naive, just wrong or actually working against our national interests on purpose.
As I said yesterday, I bounce between hope and panic. The hope actually comes from believing in naive or wrong.

      • The College Widow

“The hope actually comes from believing in naive or wrong.”

I completely understand and agree. And how sad is it that we hope for naive and wrong? Are these also times that try men’s (and wimmens) souls?

      • Rufus

That Bush 43 sent troops there on a whim?

It can’t be that because Senators Obama, Kerry and Clinton all said that was the war, and the only war we should be fighting after 9/11.

        • “I sometimes wonder if Obama is naive, just wrong or actually working against our national interests on purpose.”

TCW: I tend to think it’s the last pick of the three. After decades of generational incrementalism, I believe the left is looking at this admin. as their last hurrah!

        • SHHHHHH that never happened, they didn’t say that and if they did they were trying to be bipartisan and work with the administration.

  • Veruckt

    Widow,

My favorite thing about the speech in Florida was how absolutely pissed off the servicemen behind the President looked. Something tells me none of them have that ridiculous “Hope” sticker on any of their belongings.

    • The College Widow

Just watched a video clip. You’re so right about their expressions. They must have been grateful for the discipline of military training…not sure I could have held back.

  • blackhawk12151

Krauthammer said it best on Special Report last night. He said it was disgusting that BO cannot make any kind of statement about Afghanistan without taking a swipe at Bush (referencing the “years of drift” statement BO made). He is absolutely right, it is BO’s war now, and if he didn’t want to fight it he shouldn’t have called it “the war of necessity.”

    • The College Widow

The Kraut has been so-on target lately. I don’t always agree with him but when he says something I have thought it makes me feel sooooo smart.

  • +JMJ+

I hate to just suddenly change the topic on you guys, but I was hoping to pick your intelligent brains about something else.

My little brothers are being fed the Al-Gore-esque, fearmongering global warming story in school, and I think I’m about to go head to head with their Science teacher. =P In the meantime, though, does anyone know of any kid-friendly Web sites that present the facts on this issue in a way fifth graders can easily understand?

    Thanks!

  • Veruckt

    Enbrethiliel,

Unfortunately it’s difficult to find kid friendly or educational truths on global warming, most of it’s suppressed not to mention skeptics do not get the tens of billions from the government that the fear mongers do. I would look up John Coleman (founder of the Weather Channel), he has some great pieces out there on the global scam. In exposing global warming as a hoax you have to rely on science instead of emotional “aw look at the polar bears” crap and unfortunately science isn’t as kid friendly as the Coca Cola polar bears. Though you could always try Al Gore’s approach just tell them there is no global warming and then start yelling “THE DEBATE IS OVER” and when they try to ask questions cover your ears and yell louder and louder that the debate is over.

Three things: Great sign. I wouldn’t mind having one of those myself. And Outlaw is right those are also nice Azeleas.
Second, Barry Obama needs to figure it out NOW. Its just like watching sand running through our fingers the time he has been wasting. This is ridiculous! I know so many families and so many guys who are going over or are over there and its poo or get the hell off the pot. For cripes sakes! You know what really jerks my chain? The President doesn’t give a damn about it either.
Thirdly: I went to Starbucks today and guess what I saw trotting down the avenue outside of our development like he owned the place? A Coyote. I turn the corner and there is a Beagle laying dead in the road. I guarentee that the Beagle was chased into the road by that criminal varmint.

  • Veruckt

Argh! I’m so angry about this. Scott and I obviously have to suffer through the hapless Titans, coached by a thinner Ron Jeremy, as our state’s team and this weekend they are playing the also hapless Jaguars, coached by a slightly younger Gary Busey. As a result of this game we will not get to see the Packers and Vikings games because we have to suffer through the festering turd of a game with the Titans!!! I’m either going to have to quickly befriend someone with Direct TV Sunday Ticket or bite the bullet and go to a sport’s bar.

    • Rufus

I’d opt for the Sport’s bar. Make a friend and the next thing you know you’ve got to drive him to the airport, or help him move. Nothing but work, friends.

  • Read a piece describing O as acting like a little girl. Couldn’t resist playing with Photoshop…http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_E19qkM_1-HA/Suh42xL6YuI/AAAAAAAAAeY/vR9Ad8UMTHI/s1600-h/Obamalittlegirl.jpg

Hey guys check this site out. Every kind of animal you’d ever want to eat, including Kangaroo. If you are willing to shell a little extra out for Thanksgiving there is Wild Turkey! I am sending for one this year. Expensive but they are soo much better than domestic birds. TRUST ME! Its the Acorns they eat…

Curious thing, and I’d be very interested to hear David’s take on this once he’s done working on his death ray, but should these health reforms pass they may well violate the TN State Constitution. Section 21 addresses the idea of the government forcing public use of services and by my estimation the services of a private company would fall under this ammendment. Here it is:

“Section 21. That no man’s particular services shall be demanded, or property taken, or applied to public use, without the consent of his representatives, or without just compensation being made therefore.”

    What say you?

  • David Marcoe

This is probably a more apt question for Floyd; he’s a law prof, after all. But I think I can do an adequate job.

The states are co-sovereign entities to the Federal government under the Constitution. As such, they have spheres of authority that the Fed. gov’t shouldn’t be able to touch. The 10th Amendment–which is all over the map, with differing interpretations by scholars–does at least reinforce this conclusion. In short, Tennessee may have grounds to nullify it. Texas has threatened it. Other states may follow suit if that happens. The only grounds on which the Fed’ gov’t can pass the legislation is under the Commerce Clause, but unless you ignore it entirely and make up something in its place, the Commerce Clause does not give them the power to do so. Under that argument, every state might have the right to nullify it.

  • Veruckt

    David,

So this really all comes down to the age old Federalist vesus anti-Federalist argument then?

Also I’m going to try and email you later regarding your health plan idea you had mentioned in yesterday’s open thread. With my healthcare experience and knowledge I might be able to help you refine it a bit and avoid some of the pitfalls and loop holes that can inadvertently be opened up with high risk pooling.

  • David Marcoe

So this really all comes down to the age old Federalist versus anti-Federalist argument then?

Well, it comes down to Federalism in the face of socialism. The implication of the states and the Fed. gov’t being co-sovereign are that the states can assert their legitimate authority, but so can the Fed. gov’t; if a state or the states were to attempt to override a legitimate exercise of federal power, they would be in the wrong and the Fed. gov’t in the right.

Nullification is not specifically outlined in the Constitution, but it’s an issue of two and two is four; if the states have sovereignty, then they have the power to assert that sovereignty, but only with in the bounds in which they are sovereign.

I look forward to you e-mail; david.marcoe at modernconservative dot com

I will be honest, and I am not ashamed to say this. I enjoy the movie HAROLD AND MAUDE. I actually like it. Yes there are two problems (the soldier is cartoonish and the ending seems forced) but whenever its on I feel like I have to watch it.
