Half-Assed

Half-assed--

Back in the mid-90s we were out in California on Spring Break from Texas. I began to get an ear infection. I had had a lot of them in my 20s and early 30s so I knew what it was almost before I even felt the icepick in my ear. Off we go to the Urgent Care to get some Vicodin (Oh sweet Gaia — the Vike!) and some Amoxicillin — antibiotic — to kill the infection my inner ear. This urgent care — which shall remain nameless — but it sounds similar to UC Urvine Pedical Venter — was full of med students learning to become doctors. I even told the guy how much amoxicillin I needed when he saw me because I’d had 8 or 9 ear infections the 7 years prior. I was an expert. So anyway… even though those with experience (me) in the situation and the general experts (doctors in general) called for a set medicine to cure the disease — this neophyte gave me a lesser amount. I didn’t realize it at the time and discovered it on the way back to Texas. Anyway… result: I felt better for a day or so because I had some of what I needed, but since I didn’t get all of what was necessary I got sicker in the end and had to go back and get even more medicine to fix the first screw up.

I see this on Drudge Report — … ‘McChrystal Light’ Obama Considering Scaled Down War Plan

President Barack Obama is considering sending large numbers of additional U.S. forces to Afghanistan next year but fewer than his war commander, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, prefers, U.S. officials said.

Such a narrowed military mission would escalate American forces to accomplish the commander’s broadest goals, protecting Afghan cities and key infrastructure. But the option’s scaled-down troop numbers likely would cut back on McChrystal’s most ambitious objectives, amounting to what one official described as “McChrystal Light.”

Under the pared-down option, McChrystal would be given fewer forces than the 40,000 additional troops he has asked for atop the current U.S. force of 68,000, officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Senior White House officials stressed, however, that the president has not settled on any new troop numbers and continues to debate other strategic approaches to the 8-year-old Afghanistan war. The officials say Obama has not yet firmly settled on the narrowed option or any other as his final choice for how to overhaul the war effort.

Obama is likely to hold off on making a decision until after Afghanistan’s presidential run-off election on Nov. 7, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Thursday in Pakistan.

The experts in the field have asked for 40,000 troops. Past experience (the Iraqi surge and past small wars doctrine) tell him that more troops are required and that the commander in the theater is the expert. Obama is on the verge of giving General McChrystal half or some of what he asks. No doubt the situation will get better for a while. I’m afraid that in the long run the situation will worsen and more troops will be required than the original 40,000 to fix the situation. If only the situation were as trivial as a mere ear infection.

  • Half-assed. Exactly what I thought, Floyd.

  • And he took the time for a Kodak moment when the deceased troops were brought home. What a guy.

That whole scene of him marching down the with the caskets really grossed me out. How dare he use them like that. HOW DARE HE! A real man would meet the families like W did…Oh forget Obama isn’t a real man.

Obama is setting the stage for cutting and running. He showed up to be with the dead (about whom he has absolutely no concern), and he will use that to justify why he cannot, in good conscience, support General McChrystal’s request for a larger contingent which would lead, sadly, to more times when Obama would have to walk with the dead.
Obama is not just a badly educated man, a man with no discernible talent, he is a man with no ethical sense, no belief in the country that gave him so much; in fact he has nothing but hatred for that country. That hatred has been fired in long ties with Ayers and Wright.
He is a bad man, a weak man…no wait, he isn’t a man, he’s a silhouette, a shadow, a fading cypher who will be whatever he thinks is necessary for the moment.

Very well put, Kevin. Obama does not like the country he’s been elected to serve. He doesn’t like our founding documents. He doesn’t like people who disagree with him. Heck, Obama probably doesn’t like himself. He IS a shadow of a human being. We are so screwed.

  • No one in particular

Does the word “escalation” recall anything? Maybe he should have a word with his pal Gen Powell, who made sure than enough force was employed in Iraq 1.

  • My beloved armed forces are being hung out to dry! Thanks, you monumental Jack Ass!

(My thoughts and prayers are with the TRULY BRAVE men and women, Obama has unnecessarily put into harm’s way.)

  • Oh, yeah, it’s crap like this that pissed me off when I first saw “Black Hawk Down.” “No Spectre Gunships.” Thanks to the “Democratic” “Moron in Chief” who preceded the current “Democratic” “Moron in Chief!”

Please add my disgust and outrage to the great comments on this post. The Obama pose with the remains of the Honored Dead, well, words fail. Grant unto them eternal rest…

I will be praying for the repose of their souls and for their families. I will also be praying for those who serve.

  • I’m additionally praying for our brave men and women (and the real men and women who lead them) to pull the Honduran Maneuver (copyright pending). In the words of Ronnie Wood, had enough of this shit…

  • The US involvement in the illegal actions of Zelaya is an absolute travesty:

Did the Zero team even bother to find out what really happened before they stuck their noses into Hondura’s affairs?????

  • It looks strangely like a test case for the “americas” to force a dictator into a free republic. Are we next?
