Looks like you guys had fun on the election open thread last night. I fell asleep before Fox called it for Owens. The Christie win was enough to make me feel like a winner for the night.

This weekend I will be experiencing something that I am positive is unprecedented in the male world. 8 very attractive women (friends of my better half and I) are coming over to watch football, there will be no other guys aside from me. Most of them will be wearing Peyton Manning jerseys probably as they are primarily all Colt fans. Regardless has something like this ever happened outside of a Dear Penthouse letter before? Is this the male equivalent of finding the Holy Grail? I know I will have to get pictures as proof.

  • Since we were talking about the “V” reboot last night, I thought I’d mention that my site is running a review of the first episode here http://www.republibot.com/content/episode-review-v-%E2%80%93-pilot-season-1-episode-1

That idiot BarryO dropped by for another Hit-and-Run comment on the Berlin wall post from yesterday. I responded to him, but I doubt he’ll read it. He doesn’t seem interested in discussion, he just likes to comment on threads most of us have long since abandoned and then be on his merry way.

    • The College Widow

Yeah…I’ve noticed that too. His comments are so laden with talking points and cliches I thought he was being sarcastic. Besides, how much time does Markos Moulitsas (aka Kos) have on a given day to troll around?

    • It’s disappointing, at least to me. BarryO used to be about conversation. Not so much anymore.

    Widow,

Sorry to hear you are a Brown’s fan. You must live in perpetual disappointment.

Congressman Thaddeus McCotter is coming to speak at my school on the 16th. I’ll be sure to tell him I am a frequent participant here in Threedonia.

BarryO is a leftist who has to have the last word. Sadly for him we are Americans who also have to have the last word. What a tool.
Anyway having lap top issues..again. Hubby and I are getting new computers soon. Maybe it will be a combined Christmas Present dunno.

  • The College Widow said: “I’m a Browns fan.”

On behalf of Bears fans everywhere Widow, please accept both my sincere condolences and my gratitude for last Sunday.

  • So if everyone hates BarryO, why are we all talking about him? Seems to me the best way to deal with a hit-and-run poster is to completely ignore him. Otherwise, you’re giving him what he wants.

R-3 Trolls are sport. Its open season. When they come around we bat em between our paws like cats playing with a mouse. Just go with it. Barry O does no harm to anyone but himself. He is a blast.

  • Right, right, right, but my point is that if you want to hurt him, ignore him.

    • Shhhh, don’t let him know, but I have. Don’t get me wrong, thoroughly enjoyed blackhawk’s smackdown, but I read BO’s last night, gave a shrug and moved on down the line to watching V.

Whatever nominal amount of pleasure BarryO derives from actual human interaction here in Threedonia is worth it if he keeps setting me up for those smackdowns.

It is disappointing for me because, in a way, I kind-of want to be shown I’m wrong. I love to learn and without good, honest, sincere liberals debating with me I can’t progress. I won’t learn. It is disappointing. I could make better arguments playing devil’s advocate than what I typically see in the comments on most sites. It’s all strawmen and ad-hominem. I know there are smart liberals. Where did they all go? They’re certainly not working in the Administration.

        • blackhawk12151

They’re in hiding, their intellectual honesty disqualifies them from being a part of the rank-and-file leftist masses. After all, they might not pledge absolute and complete loyalty to the leftist causes.

        • The College Widow

I discovered during the campaign of ‘08 that it’s nigh on impossible to find liberals that can engage in real debate online. I know what you mean, Rufus about wanting to be proved wrong or at least gain some insight into the other side. I want to be challenged but I don’t want to just participate in a flame war. I gave up. It’s not that I’m so smart and they’re so dumb – I truly think it’s that libs don’t have to do the intellectual work to understand their viewpoints. If you’re constantly affirmed by the media and your college professors, why think anyway?

    • Stephanie

YOu don’t get what I am saying. Let him attack say stupid stuff. Those who want to go after him can and we can all laugh at his expense. Baiting a troll sometimes is more fun for us than ignoring them…get it?

  • Stephanie

I just want to say, Mike Rowe just accepted my friend request on facebook. Yes this rules! Me love Mike Rowe!

  • >>It is disappointing for me because, in a way, I kind-of want to be shown I’m wrong. I love to learn and without good, honest, sincere liberals debating with me I can’t progress.<<

That's a really good attitude, Rufus, and one I try to follow myself. I'm willing to listen to any argument, and I'm willing to accept logical counterpoints on damn near everything. All ya' need to do to make me believe is convince me, I'm not a hard sell. And they HAVE changed my mind on some issues over the years, far and few between, but most of them never actually try. They're just so damn evangelical. It's like "Believe in the Democratic Party and be saved…what? My saying it's good isn't enough for you? Well, I've got some circular arguments and catchy slogans…what? You want facts? Well, the hell with you!"

    Irritating.

Alas, I suspect a lot of us on this side of the fence aren't much better. That's why I don't go hunting for converts anymore…
