Are they still on Summer hiatus?

    Libertas…man that brings me back

I remember the whole ‘out of the blue’ announcement that Dirty Harry would no longer be blogging for Libertas and how it was all a little shady. The ensuing posts by Jason Apuzzo didn’t really provide an explanation, and then they went of the summer hiatus that never ended.

    Oh boy………..

  • Let me clear my throat…

While I certainly am not badmouthing anyone releasing an independent film (and with a 10+ year-old indie documentary all but collecting dust, I understand the difficulties in even getting something/anything to YouTube), this is why Libertas closed up shop a year and a half ago? This?!?! A) Grainy black and white does not equal edgy, at least not automatically; B) Whatsa? Whozit? Thinking I’m not alone in that this trailer give us no clues about anything…and not in a curiosity way; C) Having a film degree does not mean one knows how to make a film (albeit just a teaser/trailer here, John Nolte, Jack Marino and many more in this town directed movies light years beyond this, guessing with smaller budgets as well); D) How soon till Joel Surnow sues for 24 copyright infringement, and I gotta wonder if Dave Mustaine/Megadeth has any rights to “Kalifornistan.”

Jason and Govindini, nice enough people and I had a fun time volunteering at Liberty Film Fest #2. I have nothing bad or catty to say about them besides they strung me and the conservative bands I managed (Right of Center and White Elephant) along like the majority of the the clueless LA GOP leadership (not bitter grapes, a fact). Noble effort, very noble effort to get a conservative film fest going in the belly of the Hollywood beast. Ditto Libertas. I’ve also been told from very reliable sources (and I’ve witnessed some of it, too), the couple’s burned a whole lotta bridges in this town, far more than their shoddy incredibly reprehensible treatment of John Nolte. Never good when the deck’s already stacked against us. Still, as long as Jason and Govindini are faithful to the conservative causes more than their personal agendas, I wish them the absolute best … but for God’s sake, and fully admitting my bias, put Forgotten Heroes on the schedule of the next Liberty Film Festival — Old, schmold, too (the usual lame excuse Jack gets) ’cause I can’t imagine there are too many filmmakers beating down the LFF doors with a movie that has President GW Bush’s seal of approval like Mr. Marino’s does.

Full disclosure, I only know the guy through e-mail and his work on the web, but I know for a fact these two did not do right by John Nolte. John stayed above the fray, and never said anything malicious about them, but I could read between the lines and see what was going on when John asked me for help at DH’s Place. “Burning bridges” is a good phrase in this case, E.P. They didn’t need to treat John poorly, even if they were changing course or direction. John had done yeoman’s work for them for several years and had been nothing but complimentary to them and their work. Why dump on him for no reason? Very odd behavior.

    • I wasn’t there, but I really need to find someone who was at an event in Santa Barbara where Govindini was treated rather shabbily herself, deservedly from what I heard. Sadly, I forget most of the details, but it was a judge-worthy doozy.

I have no love for John Nolte (he threw me out of DH’s place for a “homophobic” remark),but then for him I wouldn’t have found Threedonia!

Scott, I don’t recall the incident, and I didn’t agree 100% with everything John wrote or did; we’re all individuals after all, but I can tell you it does get difficult sometimes moderating a website. There is content that appears here that conflicts with my ideals, and sometimes there are things written here that I would prefer not be associated with something that “has my name on it,” but, at the same time I think it’s very important to have a forum where folks discuss things freely. I’ll never learn or advance my own knowledge if there aren’t things here that I disagree with.

I think there have only been one or two times in Threedonia when I’ve let someone know that they, in my opinion, were crossing a line. In those cases I prefer to let the comments stand so folks can make up their own minds, but I do think there was one time where someone crossed a line and Floyd and I agreed the comment would be removed.

It’s good we have a lot of differing viewpoints here, and a lot of unique individuals. Sometimes that means somebody will take offense to something written.

I just did not like the way stuff went down at Libertas. John is a good guy and he worked very hard there for that site. I also started feeling towards the end when the two were paying attention that people were being condescended to by both of them. It started feeling it was about them and not about the issues, or what needed to be done.
