So says Joe Perry, who took his own respite from the band during the early 1980s. Tyler took a spill during a recent concert, which resulted in the tour being canceled.
Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has said that singer Steven Tyler has quit the band “as far as I can tell.”Perry’s comments follow those of rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford, who last week (November 6) said that Aerosmith are to hold crisis talks about their future after relations with Tyler became strained.
Now Perry has confirmed that Tyler is unlikely to perform with the band again.
Aerosmith has a strange legacy. A staple of classic rock 70s radio, the band cranked out hit after hit. Drugs took a toll by the late 1970s, Perry had left and the band hit a creative standstill. Thanks to some help from Run DMC, the band landed back on the charts by the mid 1980s and became a pop-rock centerpiece for the next decade and a half.
Watching the band release ballad after ballad threw off many fans, but the group kept its soul, thanks to solid rhythm and Joe Perry’s off-beat bluesy lead style.
Perry and Brad Whitford have claimed they’ll hire a new singer.

Yeah, Steven, the world’s clamoring somethin’ fierce for a solo album from you. Far more worse than better, I can’t get past the fact these guys haven’t done much for me since they sold their sleazy souls post-Run D.M.C. collaboration. I know the masses ate it up, and more power to the guys for making some $$$ out of relying on the likes of pop writers Holly Knight, Desmond Child and Diane Warren, but these ears hear all the ballads running standstill into one big glop. Did love me some “Hangman Jury,” “Eat the Rich” and “Janie’s Got a Gun,” though. Honkin’ on Bobo was a decent stab at getting back to their grittier blues roots a few years ago, but too little too late unfortunately.
That said, I can think of only one other 4+ member band where the sum is greater than the parts, to the point taking out the key ingredients like either Perry or Tyler would render the band a non-factor: Motley Crue. John Corabi unavailable for comment.
Only Tyler I care about is Liv…hubba hubba
A-men!!! The fair Faye…
Why now? Why not 15 years from now?
Actually, I assume it’s because he owns or co-owns all their songs, so if they go on tour without him, he still gets paid. It’s Journey all over again, excepting that they suck a bit less than Journey did. But only a bit.
Republibot 3.0,
How do those royalties work? I understand that if a song gets commercial radio play the performers and composers get paid (or whoever owns the rights), but what about live performances? I assume when Z.Z. Topp charge $100/ticket and cover an Elmore James tune somebody gets paid (well, James’ stuff is probably in the public domain already), but what about when I pay a $5 cover to see some band nobody’s heard of, and they play a cover of a Z.Z. Topp song. Are they supposed to give some percentage of that money to Z.Z. Topp?
I love love love Aerosmith. If this is true then it sucks. Joe Perry is an amazing guitarist but without ST………
Tyler took a spill during a recent concert, which resulted in the tour being canceled.
It’s hard to perform with a broken hip.
Actually, its funny that the post mentions John Corabi….He would be PERFECT to sing with these guys…..Of course it shouldnt be called Aerosmith, but the other 4 guys have been playing together for 40 years, if they want to continue more power to them…..Corabi can pull off all old stuff and is an amazing writer….
It would be AWESOME!
Nothin’ wrong with a little Corabi. Still think the Motley Crue album he did has aged pretty well. Prefer the band with Vince Neil, but that Motley with Corabi blows away anything VN did solo.
