To be fair, they were doing their job in following the profile. Because the fact is, 95% of serial killers fit the profile of white, middle-class adult males, and the best use of resources is to investigave those who fit it. I fit that profile to a T, and I’ve accepted that if (God forbid) there is ever a serial killer operating in my neighborhood, I wouldn’t be surprised if the cops show up at my door to ask me a few questions.

But I wouldn’t blame that on the cops or some imaginary prejudice, I would blame it on the serial killer, who is forcing them to do their jobs and investigate people who fit the profile. Because the important thing here isn’t making my whiny little ass feel “comfortable,” it’s saving lives.
