WTF Video, Wang Chung

This is really not so much a WTF moment as one where I’d say I hope you aren’t prone to seizure. Long before Piekachoo began putting kids into epileptic fits there was Wang Chung and their video for the song “Everyone Have Fun Tonight”. Be careful!

This video always made my eyes hurt. Small price to pay for awesome 80’s goodness

    Talk about crazy timing…
I was flipping channels yesterday and came across this video on one of the music vid channels and was “weirded out” by it…and what are the chances I see this same video twice in two days?

  • 21st century Pikachu-addled pussy kids. We survived this AND Voltron … fairly unscathed, at least until Huey Lewis and News’ “Hip to Be Square” dizzied us.

I imagine I must have seen this “back in the day” (as the kids say), but I didn’t recall it. Having just watched it now I have to admit I kind of dig it. It drags on a bit. I think they should have used the technique for maybe the first 90 -120 seconds and then mixed it up a bit. Or, maybe better, leave the first 90 seconds as they are and then continue the jumpy effect but with different settings and backgrounds; outside, in a factory…

  • Oh, I think I get it now: The “WTF” does not in any way refer to confusion about the video, it’s just something you’re saying because it’s trendy. Got it.

The video was shot in one day on pretty much a nonexistent budget, and then they edited the hell out of it for a week or two. It was breifly banned in some markets for fear that it might cause epileptic siezures. I’m assuming none of you have ever heard the B-side from this single? It was a slow, mornful version of the same song that really emphasized the bridge: “On the edge of oblivion/and all the world is babylon/and all the love/and everyone/just a ship of fools/sailing on.” I quickly grew tired of the single, but I always really liked the B-side.

@ Eric: No way, man, Pikachu kicks ass! You’re just a grumpy old man.

Jigglypuff could take them all on.

  • Charizard could take out a normal Pikachu, easily, but they’ve established that Ash’s Pikachu is much more powerfull than normal. He’s up there with a Rychu.

Jigglypuff could probably make Charizard (or Psyduck) fall asleep, but does that count as a battle? Really?

Charizards are kind of like Rhinoceri in the old Roman venationes. If one is engaged, and wants to fight there’s nothing that can beat one, but they tend to not be interested in fighting. They need to be provoked.

And since Mike appears to currently be off-line, I will go ahead and do this for him…

And the award for the sentence containing the combination of nouns least likely to appear together goes to:
      Rufus T. Firefly!
(if Mike were doing this he’d insert a celebrating Alfalfa here)

I don’t know whther to laugh or cry at this conversation. Maybe a little of both.
