So tomorrow debate opens with an expected vote on the healthcare takeover legislation. Something tells me there will be much grandstanding from both sides and a very contentious debate which could be at least a little amusing to watch. I do wonder how the American people will react if this thing passes. Could we see “civil unrest”? I mostly think people are too lazy to actually stand up and fight for anything anymore but who knows.
I’m with you on the civil unrest bit. But I think, either way, we’re going to see a conservative sweep at the end of 2010 – basically because people will have lost patience with the economy – and the possible burst of the “money bubble” around election time.
Republibot3.0’s take on Iron Man, shared here mainly so I can question his questioning of Weird Science, in my book one of the underrated John Hughes flicks.
You nailed it! He is such a major douche that it spilled over to her hotness. How could someone that hot not see what a tremendous douche he was? Answer: she must have known. It knocked her off the pedastel for me.
I haven’t heard anything in my area but I’d love to attend. It’s shocking that there isn’t one in the Nashville area, afterall we are called “the Silicon Valley of Healthcare”.
No rallies in DC yet that I have heard either but I fully expect someone like the 912 project to step up and put something together. I’ll keep you posted.
Bill Paxson is awesome as Chet! He was robbed of the Best Supporting Actor award that year. I haven’t watched the Academy Awards since. That’s when I knew they were rigged. And it has Kelly LeBroc in it too.
I saw the team live early in the season. A great stadium and a great time! He’s a great coach. I like his offense; very unpredictable and very exciting. I did wonder if the fact that the stadium sells the bacon explosion had anything to do with his contract though…
Nice inside TN joke there Scott. You can’t get away from those “See Rock City” ads anywhere within state lines except for in my neck of the woods where they have really, really strict restrictions on advertising and structure appearance.
I went to Rock City once. My Dad jumped up and down on a rope bridge while we were crossing to freak me out. I’m pretty sure that is the genesis of my fear of heights
Wow! Someone actually *reads* the stuff I post over there! I honestly didn’t think anyone did! Cool! Thank you, Eric.
I don’t care for “Weird Science.” It’s got some good stuff going for it – great theme song, Kelly LeBrock when she was still screamingly hot, the guy who played “Wez” in “The Road Warrior.” And yet somehow it doesn’t work for me, you know? Anthony Michael Hall is basically annoying. The kid he’s playing against is a schlubb (I understand he’s now an English professor. Good for him!) I don’t think most of the humor is terribly funny, the plot never quite makes sense. I really like the energy, and generally I love screwball kitchen sink comedies, but this one doesn’t work for me. My favorite scene in the movie is the two kids hanging out with the bluesmen. “It’s the smoke. Chick’s can’t hold in the smoke” and of course “Not the family jewels!” which, frankly, would have been equally funny were it in this movie, or in “The Day After” or in a six-hour version of “The Brothers Karamazov.” In fact, it’d probably be funnier in The Brothers Karamazov.
I read your takes on the first two episodes of AMC’s “The Prisoner.” I have never seen the original series but thought you had it dead on with some of your observations on the new series. There are definitely intriguing elements to the story and I like the anti-collectivist tone (almost an “Anthem” type feel with the numbers for names) but there is something about the directions and the editing that really takes me out of the story and keeps me at arms length. I have a hard time believing whatever the final payoff is will make it worth the whole 6 hours.
The series is different in look than the original. I talked to someone else about it and they thought Caveziel was playing it not exactly safer but not as aggressively as it should have been played. I felt Caveziel was given to directions to back off a bit. He is too good an actor to misuse like that. I do like it.
Oh and tabloid TV has Im Matt Damon whining about Palin again.
I’d definitely recommend seeing the original – if you can. You kind of have to be in the right mind-set for it to grab you, but once it does, you won’t regret the time you spent watching.
A little warning about the final episodes, though. They kind of play in the absurdist realm. But there is actually a brain behind it all, so it’s worth trying to figure it all out.
@ Blackhawk: Yeah, the “Big Twist Ending” isn’t worth the payoff, and it completely undercuts pretty much everything they’ve established in the first three or four episodes. Basically, they tried to pull a “Jacob’s Ladder” sans any real understanding of Eckhartian thought, or any real logical, coherent writing.
I can not praise the *ORIGINAL* series enough, however. Every episode is watchable, and even the bad ones (There’s two) are entertaining, and most of them have some mildly thought provoking elements. The conclusion (Episodes 16 and 17) are a bit too trippy for most people, but the meanings are there if one has a mind to apprehend it, and it all makes sense though it’s more allegorical than most people are comfortable with. Added to which, McGoohan is always a compelling actor. He could read the phone book and make it seem like a personal attack on the system.
And there’s no damn twist ending that pulls the rug out from under your feet.
totally digging “WWII in HD”. all kinds of chewy awesomeness.
But there was a commercial for another show coming up, and I’m Matt Damon, Josh Brolin and Danny Glover were pushing it. It’s called “The People Speak”. Is this that Zinn steaming pile they’ve been threatening us with for the last few months? Totally killed the buzz of watching the greatest generation taking on socialism.
Started our annual watching of “Band of Brothers.” It’s a tradition at our house. Never hurts to remember what “the few” did so the “many” could enjoy their freedom.
I’m sitting in a coffee shop studying and listening to Them Crooked Vultures. It’s Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age, Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters and The Mighty John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin. It is freaking awesome. It makes me want to jump up and punch the guy sitting at the table next to me for no reason and then scream “Rock!”
I’ve heard a little of Them Crooked Vultures and I like it!
I liked most of the Foo stuff too.
I suppose it would be irresponsible of me to encourage you to punch the guy sitting next to you. JPJ of LZ is a helluva bass player and that’s reason enough to punch anyone.
Just downloaded this a couple days ago, and really looking forward to it, even more now. Won’t listen at work, though, where I really want to punch certain people lately.
Here is my list of songs that make me want to punch people for no reason:
Five Finger Death Punch – Never Enough
Deftones – Shove It
Slipknot – Anything from their first 3 albums
Limp Bizkit – Break Stuff
Soul Fly – Jump Da F*** Up
I’m sure there are more but these are my big workout songs.
Anything by As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, Haste the Day, Norma Jean, or Mychildren Mybride makes me want to punch people. That is all Christian metalcore so I kind of feel justified though.
No question: the two songs that most make me want to punch people are “500 Bucks” by Reverend Horton Heat, and “No One Lives Forever” by Oingo Boing. (Specifically, the live version off of “Farewell.”)
Would love to visit the Czech Republic. Heck, the way things are going, I wouldn’t mind moving there. At least their President’s got HIS head on straight.
Trapped in an elevator for 41 hours…with diarrhea
As you might guess, it’s probably not work-kosher. Funny as hell, though.
Interesting goings on in the UK regarding the “science” of global warming. http://hotair.com/archives/2009/11/20/do-hacked-e-mails-show-global-warming-fraud/

Veruckt,
Have you heard of any demonstrations or rallies in DC in conjunction with this? I am willing to go if anything is being assembled.
Republibot3.0’s take on Iron Man, shared here mainly so I can question his questioning of Weird Science, in my book one of the underrated John Hughes flicks.
How can anything with Kelly LeBroc be under-rated? I don’t know what your rating scale is, but I already know I don’t want any part of it.
Her credibility was seriously compromised when she married Steven Seagal.
You nailed it! He is such a major douche that it spilled over to her hotness. How could someone that hot not see what a tremendous douche he was? Answer: she must have known. It knocked her off the pedastel for me.
I saw that the Douche has a new series on A&E. I wonder if he still has his pony tail…

Hey, I love the movie, watch it more than the hasn’t-aged-as-well Ferris and even Breakfast Club. Talk to the masses, brutha.
Bill Paxson is awesome as Chet! He was robbed of the Best Supporting Actor award that year. I haven’t watched the Academy Awards since. That’s when I knew they were rigged. And it has Kelly LeBroc in it too.
Anybody see this Kansas football coach,Mark Mangino…gawd, this guy’s as big as a barn! They could paint “See Rock City ” on his butt.
I saw the team live early in the season. A great stadium and a great time! He’s a great coach. I like his offense; very unpredictable and very exciting. I did wonder if the fact that the stadium sells the bacon explosion had anything to do with his contract though…

Translation: “we’re snobs.”
I went to Rock City once. My Dad jumped up and down on a rope bridge while we were crossing to freak me out. I’m pretty sure that is the genesis of my fear of heights
Did you fall and die?
I did in my mind…then and many times since in my nightmares
Wow! I’ll bet you could sue the old man. Did he have a big life insurance policy on you? This sounds kind of like that Ashley Judd flick.
I would sue him but he would probably kick my ass and call me a girl’s name if I did. It’s better just to let it go.
I like your dad.

Oh, now I see Lee Van Cleef! I saw a comment referring to your avatar yesterday but it hadn’t updated yet. Cool and yet menacing at the same time.
Matt Damon, Brolin AND Danny Glover? Mr. S, how can you resist?
cool and menacing. Yup, that’s what it says on my business card.
Started our annual watching of “Band of Brothers.” It’s a tradition at our house. Never hurts to remember what “the few” did so the “many” could enjoy their freedom.
LT Spears taking over the company command in the middle of combat and then running THROUGH the enemy defenses to get the unit linked back up…AWESOME.
That and the guns at Brecourt Manor sequence are two of the best battle scenes ever filmed.
Enjoy your BOB!
Here’s some of the Brecourt sequence for those who haven’t seen it…

It’s already done. I explained to him why I did it though and he was cool with it.
Excellent!
In my opinion Foo Fighter’s album Skin and Bones was probably the best rock album I’ve ever heard. Certinaly the best live ablum.
That’s reason enough. I’m sure he’ll understand.

Ditto my wife with “Break Stuff.”
Me, “I.O.U.,” by — shocka!!! — The Replacements.
My #1 is Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World.”
#2 is a tie between “Edelweis” and “I Feel Pretty.”
No question: the two songs that most make me want to punch people are “500 Bucks” by Reverend Horton Heat, and “No One Lives Forever” by Oingo Boing. (Specifically, the live version off of “Farewell.”)
Anything by Brittany makes me want to drive off of bridges, but that’s probably not what yall are talking about…
For all you Czechs, Bing has a treat for you today:

Praha is a beautiful place.
Would love to visit the Czech Republic. Heck, the way things are going, I wouldn’t mind moving there. At least their President’s got HIS head on straight.
