Her Heart Belongs to Brad but Her Brain Belongs to Daddy

Maybe that production of “Atlas Shrugged” really is in the works…

CBS News is reporting that Anglina Jolie is no fan of President Obama and it’s a source of conflict between her and her husband, sperm donor, boyfriend, Brad.

Barack Obama does not have Angelina Jolie’s seal of approval. “She hates him,” a source close to the U.N. goodwill ambassador, 34, tells the new issue of Us Weekly (on newsstands now). “She’s into education and rehabilitation and thinks Obama is all about welfare and handouts. She thinks Obama is really a socialist in disguise,” adds the source. But don’t expect to see the Salt actress rally against Democrats on Fox News like her staunch Republican father, Jon Voight. “Angie isn’t Republican, but she thinks Obama is all smoke and mirrors,” the source says. And those political views are putting her at odds with Brad Pitt, 45, who is a big fan of the president and even went solo to the 2008 election party in Chicago. “They get in nasty arguments all the time about it,” says the source. “She doesn’t respect Brad when it comes to politics, but, in the end, this won’t tear them apart.”

  • I’ll take her over Pitt, any day!

This, combined with the disclosure that she & Brad donated $6million to charity this year has made me reconsider my opinion of her. Previously, I only thought of her as crazy beautiful and just plain crazy (the blood obsession, cutting, etc.). Hmmmm…

      Welcome to Threedonia, Liz!

When I was looking for a picture for this post I stumbled on an article about her. I honestly don’t know that much about her. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie she’s been in. Reading the article she sounds like someone who has been genuinely searching her whole life and tends to go to extremes when in a relationship, from her first boyfriend at 15 to her current beau. She does seem like someone with a strong moral compass and honesty also appears very important to her. I hate to play armchair psychiatrist, but it’s hard not to imagine that some of the boyfriend stuff doesn’t stem from her thoughts and feelings about her father.

  • I’m always glad to see some vestige of sanity anywhere, especially in Hollywood. But I’ve never understood Angelina J.’s reputation for beauty. To me, she’s like Pam Anderson–an artifact. There’s no shadow of vulnerability or femininity in her persona.

But I’ve decided not to hold her “beauty” against her. For now.

She thinks Obama is really a socialist in disguise

She may be smarter than most of her ilk, but clearly could still learn a thing or two. There is no disguise to Obama’s actions.

That just made her hotter. On a side note I’ve heard Brad has terrible hygeine practices and will frequently go weeks without bathing. There had been rumors that this was part of the rift.

Also if politics break up this relationship it would be the second high profile relationship in a year that had this issue. Guy Ritchie cited Madonna’s “insane hatred” of President Bush in their divorce and said she couldn’t make it through a sit down meal without carrying on about him. I think he even referred to her as “obsessed” and “deranged”.

So which is it? Do you discount US Weekly and not treat it as a legitimate source for news (and heresay) as in the case when Fox lambasted Us Weekly when Sarah Palin made the cover, or is it legit heresay? Does Us Weekly provide real insight into whether it is true that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are miserable and breaking up, or is this just something made up to show how Scientologists are nuts? You decide. Wait until next week, when a source close to Brad Pitt says that he now hates Michelle Obama too.

It’s so nice that the conservatives that rail against ‘Hollywood” and minimize them as “those wackos,” run, no sprint, to them when it’s convenient. Who’s your Daddy?

    • BarryO, so nice to see you on a non-three-day-old post! A decently raised point, too. To that point, when it’s common sense like this being reported, I generally don’t care about the source. When it’s gossip, I tend not to care much anyway.

As to US Weekly’s treatment of Palin on the cover last year, the criticism against it then was as justified as accepting this Jolie-Pitt story now. Little thing called treating the separate issues for the obviously different things they are, and not lumping everything lockstep together. Also kinda like how we on the right have to deal with Sen. Lieberman: great on defense, head-scratch-inducing on domestic issues.

My husband thinks Angie is ugly but I never have. The older she gets the more like her mother she looks and her Mom was GORGEOUS! The fact that she is actually using her mind and discovering that its not cool to enslave a populace with handouts is great. She comes off as a Libertarian which is fine. That I can deal with.
As far as Pam Anderson goes, the moment she went under the surgeons knife she ruined herself. She took everything away from herself that made her beautiful. She fell for the lies of Hollywierd hook line and sinker.
If Pitt and Angie break up I don’t think Angie will care one bit. She is very strong and can make a case for doing things on her own. She is a tough woman.
As far as Madonna goes, Ritchie also said when he held her it was like holding gristle.

  • Veruckt

Glad you can deal with Libertarians Stephanie. That is the category I tend to be put in :)

I hope BarryO has a handlebar mustache he twist while he is attempting his “a-ha I got you” moments. That would make me happy.

  • I suspect that I will be out on my own here, but I really don’t care what either Angie or Brad thinks of the President – or any other political figure. If I knew Angie or Brad on a personal level, which is to say if I could reasonably assess the way they think, their life experiences, their values and their fears (etc) their opinions might be of some interest to me. If I could assess a body of written work, that would of interest too. As it is – who cares?

I don’t have even a passing interest in the political punditry of someone whose celebrity arises from their fame as an entertainer. It’s a matter of principle – for me – and applies equally to celebs I mostly disagree with (eg Oprah) and to celebs I mostly agree with (eg Voight). We would all be far better off if the national cult of celebrity worship did not spill over into politics, whether that happens to be beneficial or detrimental to our personal political choices.

    • Rufus

I’m basically on-board with that, Rich. I pay no more or less attention to a celebrity’s opinions on politics than I do any person’s that I have no real relationship with. Not only do I have no personal experience to attach the opinion to, to give it substance, I can’t even be sure it is being filtered accurately through the press. However, since celebrities make their living asking me to give them my hard-earned money I do pay attention when I hear something that offends me.

Here’s an example. I like Bob Dorough. I’d probably pay $100 to see him live, in a small venue. If I read somewhere that Bob Dorough said he didn’t like a lot of President Ronald Reagan’s policies I’d probably still pay $100 to see him. If I read somewhere that Bob Dorough said that he wishes Kruschev had launched nukes at the U.S. and killed every man, woman and child in America after the Cuban missile crisis I probably would not go see him.

Their opinions don’t matter to me as far as something I’m going to ascribe to, simply because someone whose piano playing I admire holds that opinion, but their opinions matter to me regarding whether I want my hard-earned money to enrich that person’s fortune.

I see money as a form of voting. We vote with our wallets and the things we spend more money on are things we will see more of.

      • Rufus

One other point; as a seeker of knowledge celebrity opinions can matter to me if I encounter a celebrity saying something that I do happen to admire. Just as there is no reason to expect a celebrity to say anything erudite simply because she is a good actress, that also doesn’t mean she is not able to have interesting thoughts and opinions, simply because she is a good actress. If I’m having my car worked on and the guy putting in the new gasket has some interesting insights into something I’m interested in I’ll listen, even if he doesn’t have a PhD from MIT. The same goes for actresses, musicians, librarians, phrenologists, habadashers, astronauts…

  • Stephanie

Barry O….you crawled out of your hole to impress us again with your startling display of raw unhindered sillyness. THANK YOU for the indescribable laughter I am having now.

Thats fine Rufus and Rich but for the rest of us its nice to see a Celeb actually being logical and taking our side for a change isn’t it? I despise Penn because of his politics. If I ever met Matt Damon I’d ask him specific questions about his real gender. For me having AJ come out and question Obowmao is a small victory. I think we should all applaud her for using her brains instead of following the rest of the herd. And trust me I’d never spend a dime on the afor mentioned actors because of their politics. They want to spout off I’ll seek my entertainment elsewhere. People like that are insideous. They have hurt our country. Why spend the kwan to help them further their Castro heavy angenda. that goes for a lot of them to.

    • Rufus

Stephanie, I agree that it is nice, but I am careful about ascribing too much to it because I don’t know how it’s being filtered by the “source,” or if it’s even being reported accurately. Let’s take Kanye West. That thing he said about George Bush at the Katrina relief benefit was idiotic, and it was him, in his own words. Then that thing he did with Taylor Swift was equally idiotic, mean and incredibly self-centered. I’ve seen him do two idiotic things, in his own words, and when nothing absurd was required. I’m convinced he’s a moron.

But something like this statement from Ms. Jolie? If it’s true, that would be nice to know, and hear. If it is true I hope she does make some public statements speaking out against socialism and the detriment that government assistance does. The problem is I see tons of crazy stuff attributed to “sources” in the supermarket check-out line. This was on CBS news’ site, so that likely means they have a source they trust. It’s more than a few steps above the Weekly World News, but I don’t get too excited until I hear it straight from the horse’s mouth.

Also, I agree with what you wrote about Pam Anderson. She had tremendous natural beauty before her surgeries. Now she just looks like a recycle bin from a plastic surgeon’s dumpster. Some people seem to have a mania where they continually try to perfect themselves beyond any reason. Bruce Jenner seems to have the same disease. Freaky! I imagine it is a genuine psychosis.

  • Veruckt

Bubble bursting but I agree Trzupr. I think sometimes as Conservatives it makes us so happy to see an iota of sanity in Hollywood that we get sucked into frankly pointless celebration over a celebrity’s leanings.

  • It’s just a little refreshing to see something besides the same old Hollywierd BS. I’ll stick with my comment of “Awesome!”

  • Stephanie

Rufus you realize that this isn’t a new story. This has been out tehre in different forms for a while. She wrote that column about supporting Iraq and teh soldiers and has gone tehre and Afghanistan several times. I know what your saying but look at her actions before holding back. I believe the reason why she won’t go out in public is teh same reason why many wont….if you were an actor in Hollywood that disagreed with Obama and thought he was a bad person would you chance the outrage when you have 6 kids? Think about it. Her support of the troops, and her writing on Iraq is convincing enough for me to see this may have some solid backing.

  • It just puts her on my “probably safe” list. I’m so tired of going to see movies and getting sucker punched, so if I know they are a liberal freak who is likely to rant, I send dr zoon in first. There are a few I will go see with him and they are mostly those who shut their mouths and do their job. I prefer my artists to just be talented and not ask me to sell my soul to their cause, even if it’s a cause I agree with.

  • JJ

I’m not getting the link in the post to work.
    Rufus here; fixed. Thanks, JJ!

  • Matt Helm

I don’t know what everyone is talking about because the link has nothing to do with Angelina, but is about East Anglia. Something is lost in translation here.
