Sure, I only own the first two in the collection, but nothing like a new Very Special Christmas album to get the holiday season in gear.
Since its inception in 1987, the “A Very Special Christmas” series has raised more than $100 million for Special Olympics worldwide, the most ever generated by a recording series. Besides the albums — which also include the “Jazz to the World” and “World Christmas” compilations — the series also includes a boxed set and a DVD. U2, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Bon Jovi, Sting, Mary J. Blige, Reba McEntire, Run-DMC, Bob Seger and Bryan Adams are among the dozens of artists who have contributed tracks to the series.
Not to mention feel that much older when reading this:
“When I grew up my parents bought all of them, so that’s what we listened to ever Christmas,” recalls Colbie Caillat, whose rendition of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” was produced by her father, Grammy Award winner Ken Caillat.
It’s Christmas time in Hollis Queens
Mom’s cooking chicken and collard greens
Rice and stuffing, macaroni and cheese
And Santa put gifts under Christmas trees
Decorate the house with lights at night
Snow’s on the ground, snow white so bright
In the fireplace is the yule log
Beneath the mistle toe as we drink egg nog
The rhymes you hear are the rhymes of Darryl’s
But each and every year we bust Chrsitmas carols …
