Compassionate Conservatism Redux?

fallen
Sgt. Mark Renninger, 39; Officers Ronald Owens, 37; Tina Griswold, 40; Gregory Richards, 42.

Most of you have heard by now of the four Lakewood, WA police officers (above) ambushed and killed by an assailant yesterday morning as they were in a coffee shop catching up on paperwork.

Well… it turns out the alleged killer, Maurice Clemmons, was granted clemency a few years ago (read — Let out of prison) from a lengthy sentence for child rape by none other than Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. Michelle Malkin has the round up here — including the news that SWAT has Clemmons’ house surrounded and are talking to him.

Here’s the statement from HuckPAC:

…Should he be found to be responsible for this horrible tragedy, it will be the result of a series of failures in the criminal justice system in both Arkansas and Washington State. He was recommended for and received a commutation of his original sentence from 1990, making him parole eligible and was paroled by the parole board once they determined he met the conditions at that time. He was arrested later for parole violation and taken back to prison to serve his full term, but prosecutors dropped the charges that would have held him. It appears that he has continued to have a string of criminal and psychotic behavior but was not kept incarcerated by either state.

The problem with the system is overly sympathetic and/or arrogant idiots like you Mikey. I wasn’t ever going to vote for Huckabee anyway, but I wouldn’t vote him hall monitor. If it turns out he did ignore warnings from experts on Clemmons — I hope he sees those four faces every friggin’ day of the rest of his life because he bears some responsibility for their deaths. Unfair? Yeah… I didn’t make the rules.

Update: A brief second thought… the idiot Washington judge who let this guy out on bail on charges for child rape given his criminal history also bears some blame.

I wonder if the suits and anchorettes at Fox will ask Mike why he made this decision. Another reason why I won’t show up if Huckabee is the nominee.

I have heard from Newsmax that Huc is leaning against running for President….just an FYI. And this is probably the reason. Romney would eat him alive. So would the rest. Funny can anyone imagine a Gov. Giuliani commuting the sentence of a Child Rapist? I can’t either.

  • Huckabee (pointing): “The buck stops there”.

Never got the appeal of Huckabee. Even his name is a non starter.

  • Just adding an update to the story: sources are telling the Seattle police that one of the victims fired back and hit Clemmons in the torso. The cops went to his home, but he wasn’t there. Clemmons is holed up somewhere, maybe bleeding to death.

I wish I could say I was surprised by this, but here in the Seattle area, a nasty case of infectious leftism means that cops get absolutely no respect. As I mentioned on another post, on Halloween night a Seattle cop was murdered in a drive-by, and a local heavy metal band decided to print up t-shirts celebrating his death. Makes me ashamed to live here sometimes.

This just turns my stomach. With rage.

Floyd, this isn’t the first time Huckabee has done this.Back in the 90s he turned loose a rapist named Wayne Dumond, who was from St. Francis County,AK (about an hour west of here).Dumond proceeded to go to Missouri and murder a woman near Kansas City.Dumond went to the Missouri State Pen,where he died of cancer. As for Mikey? I think that “Huck Thin” is finished.

I would never vote for Huckabee for President for many reasons, but he did have the guts to show up on O’Reilly’s show last night and answer questions about his part in this. So, yes, at least one of the suits at Fox did ask Huckabee questions about this and he did respond. His account seemed reasonable, and less damning than initially reported, but I have not checked his story and do not know if he was speaking accurately or not.

    • The main problem I have with this — and there’s no way to really know unless he cops to it is that my Evangelical too often take someone’s word for it that if someone is “born again” then they won’t do bad things anymore.

Now I believe in the transformative power of Christ’s salvation, but if you’ve already killed someone and are in prison for 60 years, I’m still not going to let you out of prison. I have yet to hear of anything in Mr. Clemmon’s background that would lead me to believe he was an adequate candidate for commutation of sentence. He was a depraved human being who lived life full of violence. I believe anyone can be redeemed, but I also believe in consequences.

All that being said, I’ll have to YouTube O’Reilly and see what Huckabeee had to say.

      • Be ye wise as a serpent, eh?

You’re right, Floyd. There’s nothing wrong with a reformed man and redeemed Christian spending the rest of his life in jail for murder or child-rape. Huckabee should leave indulgences to us Catholics! :)

Huckabee would never earn my vote because he masquerades as a conservative but governs as a moderate to liberal. I’ve not watched his show on Fox but he’s effectively taken over the Paul Harvey-pre Rush slot on the AM band. As a host of a short radio program he’s entertaining and pleasant. There have been many times he’s made statements that made him seem conservative but I just don’t believe him. My in-laws and parents have grown to like him due to his TV show but I warn them about him. He’s not who he seems to be.

Clemmons was a human grenade and it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. He was never an appropriate candidate for clemency or pardon. Clemmons was suspect for the rape of a child and was known to exhibit psychotic behavior. Huckabee isn’t alone in this miscalculation…he had a whole string of bureaucrats along with him. And as Scott M. so ably pointed out this isn’t the first time a recipient of Huckabee’s pardon committed heinous acts. Huckabee is a pretend conservative and at least this might keep him from mucking up the next presidential primary.

  • Well, the manhunt is over. A cop found a wounded Clemmons early this morning near a stolen car, and tried to arrest him, but when Clemmons attacked him, the cop shot and killed him. It appears that about half a dozen of Clemmons’ family and friends had been helping him evade the law, and now they are being arrested too. Idiots.

I noticed that Obama hasn’t said anything about this yet. Given that Clemmons was black and all the cops he killed were white, maybe Obama will try to get all the corpses together for a beer summit now.
