The oldest Firefly and I heard this story this morning and I used it as a teaching example since he’ll be headed to University himself in about 18 months. I told him the Administrators at the school need to grow a pair. The kids pay for the privilege of attending the University. That comes with responsibilities. The administration needs to tell students that if they cannot respectfully be quiet and still when others are speaking they are not fit to attend their fine University. Otherwise it’s not a fine University.

The Little Firefly wisely brought up Ahmadinejad’s speech at Columbia as a refutation of his old man’s addled logic (God, I love my kids!). I said even in that case the students should let him speak. I said I disagree with the Administration’s decision to host him on campus, but if the University makes that decision it needs to hold its students to an appropriate level of decorum.

I have no doubt the irony is utterly lost on them. They seem to believe their First Amendment rights trump his.

By the way—and I only bring it up because I made the same mistake for many years—I think you might have meant to call yourself “pugnacious,” ’cause “timid,” you ain’t.

I’m happy to announce I have now seemingly officially recovered from my week long battle with the non-swine flu and am able to put together coherent or semi-coherent thoughts again. Good times. Last week I was in full zoned out Tommy Chong mode. With that said I am planning to release a restructuring of the healthcare system that would actually work and this week will be an ideal time to release it since they’re “debating” this festering turd of a bill as we speak.
