The cop killer is dead(spit on his grave),and now they’re rounding up his accomplices after the fact.Hope those weenie lib judges do the right thing this time. What’s also dead is Mike Huckabee’s political career:the power of pardon, parole, and commutation is a serious one,but Huckabee’s attitude was cavalier at best,as many Arkansas DAs will attest.
It appears that about half a dozen of Clemmons’ family and friends had been helping him evade the law, and now they are being arrested too. Idiots.
I noticed that Obama hasn’t said anything about this yet. Given that Clemmons was black and all the cops he killed were white, maybe Obama will try to get all the corpses together for a beer summit now.
Scott, I heard a short clip of Hucakbee’s statement on his own radio program and he sounded cold and detached at best. His career has been dogged by his pardons for many years and this should effectively snuff it out. Now fewer votes will be siphoned off for any real conservatives that might run.
There are several problems with Huckabee, but the most serious in my mind is his prior career as a Southern Baptist Minister. The fact that Bush is a Methodist and prays to the baby jeebus was enough to scare most big city elites out of their skins. Look what happened to Romney. If Mike Huckabee got close to a serious run he’d be marginalized by the media quicker than you can say, “Pat Robertson.” Yes, Jimmy Carter was a Southern Baptist but he was a proper lib, so the media treated his faith as a funny, quirky character trait, kind of like Bill Clinton’s inability to keep his pants above his ankles.
Good point, Rufus. Carter was/is an Anti-Semite so that made his faith all right with the media elites.
Also, don’t forget that Huckabee sandbagged Romney. Not that Romney would earn my vote either but I didn’t like the way Huckabee smeared him by appealing to fear of Mormons.
The problem with Huckabee was the type of Southern Baptist minister he was. I’ve known many a minister that would make mincemeat of the new York Times, David Gregory, et al. quickly.
I have no issue with a President being a Southern Baptist, I’m just expressing the reality of the lies the media will spread if there is a serious Republican contender with Baptist minister on his resume. I can see Katie know asking him if he believes the Bible is truth? Just think about the foreign policy fears they can weave from an affirmative answer to that question.
Not to divert from the serious topics of the day but I love “The Cincinnati Kid”. Great film, great cast and a theme song sung by Ray Charles. The only problem is the movie is set in the 1930s and McQueen, Ann-Margaret and Tuesday Weld all look like they just came off the set of “What’s New Pussycat”. Only the great Joan Blondell is in period costume.
No,Jimmy, the Anointed One will be over in Oslo collecting his “peace” prize…one of the columnist at Pajamas Media said that this prize should be taken about as seriously as a Teen Choice Award, although I would say less seriously.
“taken about as seriously as a Teen Choice Award” That is an awesome analogy, Scott M.! I am sincerely overjoyed that President Obama chose to accept this award. I cannot wait to see him stand at the podium and accept it. It is such an obvious, blatant, transparent image of who he is. He will never, ever live those photographs down and he’s too addled by his own legend to see the irony. It is truly priceless! I will watch that speech with a big bowl of popcorn, savoring every stentorian vowel and cherishing every practiced gesture. Truly a theater of the bizarre.
So Obama’s fence straddling on Afghanistan speech is apparently bumping the Charlie Brown Christmas Special…is he making an effort to make me dislike him more?
ARE YOU KIDDNG ME? They are bumping Charlie Brown? Look send the troops. We don’t need an exclamation and really O stop trying to POLITICIZE THE MILITARY!
And my kingdom for 100 more square footage. We barely have room for a Christmas tree and I had to put my wildlife tree in the kitchen. I swear if we have to move again while we live here, we are moving to a bigger place. I don’t care what anyone says…tehre are times when space is NICE!
So what’s the over/under on thinly veiled Bush Bashing in Obama’s speech tonight? I’m betting we hear lots of “eight years of drift” and “years of improper funding” along with lots of BS about “getting out” of Afghanistan rather than “winning.”
Hm, let’s see. Speaking at an average rate of 160 words per minute would have him saying about 10,000 words for an hour long speech. A “good” sentence length for a speech is apparently somewhere in the range of 18 words, so that’s 530 sentences give or take. Figure maybe 10-15 sentences for a particular train of thought that leaves us with about 35 “subjects of thought” in the speech. I’d put the over/under at about 20 of those are veiled Bush bashes.
Don’t forget lots of uses of the word “inherited” and you’re right this will not be a strategy for victory…as a matter of fact you are not likely to hear the word “victory” or “enemy” the entire speech but you will hear the word “exit” a lot.
To Obama this is an annoyance. A distraction from his domestic policies. He doesn’t want to give this speech tonight and bashing the previous administration is probably the only part of it he is actually looking forward to.
Oh outstanding we just saw our new health benefits for the year. Here are some highlights:
1. 36% increase in premiums!
2. Maximum out of pocket has doubled.
3. Our $1,500 FSA is gone.
4. We went from $0 copay to a $35 copay.
Yeah, I will now wrap myself in bubble wrap and hope nothing bad happens to me medically. The government is right in that something has to be done but they are wrong in what they are attempting to do since it will only make it worse.
The something that has to be done is allowing competition back into the equation. If the company bought you each a catastrophic plan with a high deductible, $5k, and helped you fund a flex spending account to cover the deductible you would be paying for your own health care every time you saw a doctor. You’d really start paying attention to what your doctor is doing and how she does it. And, doctors would really start competing for those flex account dollars. As you yourself wrote, why are the costs for elective procedures like lasik so low? The government stays out of the way.
I must have just missed it. I’ve got Dean-o singing “Winter Wonderland.” Well, it bets his daterape classic, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” I would have loved to have heard the cello version. I love that carol but it’s grossly underplayed.
Rufus go to the Christmas Classics Station on Accuradio…..thats where the Cello version is. They also have links to Amazon so you can find the CDS…ohhh now its Jesse Norman singing Geistliches Wiegenlied.
Can we have a thread on Obama’s speech? I’m trying to figure out what the hell he is talking about. This is one of the worst sale’s pitches I’ve ever seen. Also I’m trying to figure out if “a successful conclusion” is similar to a victory.
Obama’s speech was some kind of wonderful crap, wasn’t it? I think in a word it was “schizophrenic” though Scott M’s
“tedious” very appropriate.
Isn’t it amazing how he parses his words? As you mentioned, O avoids using the word “victory”. “A successful conclusion”…really, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!
I hate the gals of Code Pink but would have loved to see them crash West Point just to make Obama look human for a moment. I swear he’s an android.

Got to disagree with you there Hawk. He does want to make the speech, the man loves to hear the sound of his own voice. That aside you are right.
Well we can all hope and pray for the day when even BO gets tired of the sound of his own voice
T’will be an unprecedented day indeed.
Why else do it at West Point in front of a national television audience? This guy has been on TV more than Milton Berle.

http://www.accuradio.com/holidays/
Is the Scrubs season premiere tonight?
No. Tonight is the Barack Obama Christmas Special.
No. No. No Rufus, his Christmas Special is with Oprah. Sadly again I’m not kidding.
What?! That cannot be for real!
Listening to I Wondered as I Wandered played on a Cello…its AWESOME!
That is one of my favorites….
I must have just missed it. I’ve got Dean-o singing “Winter Wonderland.” Well, it bets his daterape classic, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” I would have loved to have heard the cello version. I love that carol but it’s grossly underplayed.
Oh it is. I hate saying this but of all people Barbara Streisand did one of the best versions. Placido DOmingo did to.
Rufus go to the Christmas Classics Station on Accuradio…..thats where the Cello version is. They also have links to Amazon so you can find the CDS…ohhh now its Jesse Norman singing Geistliches Wiegenlied.
