My 2 Cents About Shoe Throwing, and Middle Eastern Policy

Sorry I didn’t address this in the comments of another post, but I was busy spending your tax money.

First of all being a person of military persuasion, I have to express my exasperation with those who wish to tout the military experience of those they agree with, while discounting all others with similar experience who don’t happen to agree with them.

For instance one former SEC of State, Colin Powell, he’s a genus because he agrees with me except when he doesn’t and don’t you dare call him a hack politician, because he served in Vietnam, and was a general officer damn it.

Kris Kristofferson served in the Army as well but that doesn’t mean I’m going to him for advice about anything other than maybe the music business.

It’s funny that the same people who give GEN Powell kudos for his genius, forget about him testifying before the UN about Saddam’s mobile WMD labs…so was he a dupe or a genius?

If you’re a genius just because you are a general, why were the war plans for Iraq so F’d up? I mean it wasn’t GWB who sat at the White House kitchen table with a map of Iraq, Dick Cheney, and a game of Stratego to figure out how this was going to go down…it were Generals planning this mess. But you can’t blame them because you support the troops just not the mission (and you really hate GWB).

Let’s face it military service is what it is, it’s service and I personally thank everyone who has held up their hand and sworn the oath and stood watch, God bless you. But it doesn’t necessarily…

give you any superiority over those who haven’t served. I have been to Iraq twice for a total of 25 months, this experience doesn’t give me any special solution to solving the problems of that county nor does my experience in Baghdad reflect the experience of a soldier who served in Mosul. It’s all different and it is what it is. I can tell you there are all sorts of A-Holes who tried to kill me and some we killed back. I can also say a lot of people waved and smiled at me…as I wasn’t a poll taker I can’t testify as to the overall feeling of the population. But I can say quite confidently we left it safer than we found it. Didn’t ever have anyone throw a shoe at me, but I did have some try to hit my helicopter with rocks. What I do find interesting about shoe throwing is that some people in this country find the fact that someone assaulting the President of the United States of America, the leader of this nation (even if you don’t like him) funny. That guy was not attacking GWB he was attacking America, and that’s why it is bewildering to me that idiots in this country are so willing to think that guy is a hero or something of the sort. If Mr. Obama was standing there he would have done the same freaking thng…it’s America the concept they hate not Republicans or Democrats. Why can’t you get this through your thick heads?

It’s easy for some to forget nearly seven and a half years after the fact but there was a good deal of talk after the terrorist attacks of September eleventh, 2001 about the fact that nobody wanted THAT to happen again, and to that end we would attack terrorists wherever they may be, them AND THE PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT THEM. And there was much cheering and stomping of feet and general harrumphing (I’m sure it happened, I saw it on TV). Now just because a person (GWB) lives up to their word (their sworn oath to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies even) and tries to keep this nation safe you get all bent out of shape.

If back in 1991 the Army of the USA had gone on to Baghdad and overthrown Saddam and his minions, would we be where we are today? Would 9/11 have happened?

We know that OBL was ticked off that we had defiled the holy kingdom of Saudi while defending said kingdom during the first Gulf War. As a matter of fact that was on of the things that spurred him on to starting that whole “base” thing in Afghanistan. He was encouraged by our performance in Somalia and then further encouraged by our reactions to various bombings of embassies and barracks around the world. So we sat around hoping to live and let live. Hoping they would see we just wanted to get along while they were looking to see where the strong horse was. Not only were we not the strong horse, we were the horse that didn’t pay attention, the horse that didn’t care what they did. They were at war with us and we didn’t even toss our retorical mane in response…so for that we got 9/11.

Until people realize that this is a dangerous world with people who wish us dead, who hate our entire way of life (not just GWB), and quit putting politics and self in front of nation we will continue to suffer attacks from abroad. Because it’s the strong horse they respect and it’s the strong horse that will win this war.
