Even I thought I might just be succumbing to paranoia when I wrote a post the other day on the gate-crashing incident at the White House. (Note the title.)
When oh when will I learn that I must never ever doubt myself and my super-conspiracy-sniffing ability?
Desirée Rogers is the White House social secretary, and she was called before Congress to aid in its investigation into the matter. Does the gate-crashing incident warrant a Congressional investigation? I think so. This is not some “steroids in baseball” distraction, but a serious security breach that could potentially have threatened the life of the President.
But Ms. Rogers didn’t want to testify, and the White House invoked the doctrine of separation of powers to prevent her from testifying.
Honorary Moonbatman Peter King (R-NY) agrees that something fishy is happening here:
“It’s a terrible decision by the White House. They are obviously stonewalling. You have to conclude there is something to hide.”
There could be some connection beyond the one I outlined in my earlier post, but it’s hard to believe that President Obama would invoke executive privilege over an inconsequential matter. He had to know this would not look good, so I can only conclude that if the secretary had testified truthfully, his administration would have taken even more of a PR hit.
A few last thoughts:
In an interview published in Wall Street Journal Magazine last April, the writer said that:
If there’s one thing Desirée Rogers and Desirée Rogers’ staff want you to know—and will keep reminding you until you get it—it’s that the president and Michelle Obama plan to open up the White House and once again make it the “people’s house.”
I think we get it now.
Also, I thought I’d take a trip over to Democratic Underground to see their reaction:
There are some obligatory “Chimp” remarks here, but even the far left doesn’t understand what the stonewalling accomplishes.
Oh, and before I forget—

Yay! An Alfie! Way to go, Mikey.
Erm, why is Desiree talking to her popped collar?
I don’t think there’s anything particularly nefarious going on. I think, quite simply, Obama has a self-involved and brittle personality and he doesn’t respond well to being caught with his pants down. We saw the same exact thing happen in the case of his birth certificate, where all evidence was in his favor, but his camp still responded with secrecy. He was caught off guard.
There’s been consistent portrayals of him as a Caesar, with ambitions to match. But he’s really a Nero, with delusions and a complete lack of ability to rule. In fact, I would be willing to bet, outside a few of the Bush appointments that Obama kept, this government isn’t even being run at the cabinet level. It’s the assistant and under secretaries–the people left over from the Bush administration–who are doing the heavy lifting.
So we meet again, Mr. Marcoe.
Answer me this, though.
If you’re right about nothing nefarious going on, how come you don’t have an Alfie under your comment?
Oh, come now, Mike, I never show my hand. When my rascals strike, they do so from the shadows, when you least expect it…
Gah!
Whew, it’s only Buckwheat.
I think someone up the food chain from Rodgers wanted the gate crashing reality show wannabes in. Someone owed someone a favor. Me thinks the name is either Axelrod or Rahm or perhaps both. She was doing no one a favor but one of the admins goons a favor. Sure she has bragged before but come on..expecting me to believe she is the one and only at fault is bs. Meanwhile good Secret Service agents are being tossed under the bus? Come on? Its only Desiree?
I think you are misusing and denaturing the word ‘moonbat’ in your piece. It seems that the whole gate crashing affair is a set-up to rid the place of certain Secret Service personnel, probably the white Christian heterosexual ones.
Now, there’s some excellent moonbattery, Patrick. I tip my cap to you.
” … it’s hard to believe that President Obama would invoke executive privilege over an inconsequential matter.”
The one thing this administration has been adamant about is invoking the inconsequential.
I’m not even sure my stance makes sense, but I think all of you are right. I think Stephanie’s scenario is highly likely, but I also think they are stonewalling simply to stonewall. When no one calls your bet in poker you never, ever show your cards, even if you weren’t bluffing and had the winning hand. The Obama administration will not give up any information they do not have to, or that they do not control.
You might be right Rufus but if it gets too hard and it is just her they may toss her under the bus to. I think she was asked to allow these two clowns in by someone higher up the food chain. I just get a bad feeling about that. The Secret Service Agents are road kill. To allow her to do this is dangerous and they ought to know that but they seem so flip about it. Thats whats wierd. So flip.
Marcoe -”It’s the assistant and under secretaries–the people left over from the Bush administration–who are doing the heavy lifting.” I don’t think I agree with this assessment. Under/assistant secretaries are usually political appointments as well, and I believe most Bush appointments have packed up and left. Are you referring to specific people?
“I don’t think I agree with this assessment. Under/assistant secretaries are usually political appointments as well, and I believe most Bush appointments have packed up and left…”
Indeed, but most presidencies retain people from the prior administrations, appointments are made throughout a term and secretaries are as thick as bamboo in Washington. The Obama administration, still only less than a year old, has also been painfully slow in getting appointments through, such that a third of the open posts were still vacant mid-year. They aren’t going to replace eight years of Bush appointments with a snap of their fingers.
In any case, you’re missing the main point, which is that, by all appearances, the top of the hierarchy needs drool cups, while it’s people lower on the totem pole who are doing the day-to-day management and making sure things don’t careen out of control. How far you have to go down before the political stupidity is no longer at noxious levels is certainly up for speculation and debate.
Like I said there is something truly seedy going on here and I can’t figure it out. I can’t believe they would just allow this to fester out of pure infantilism. It makes no sense.
Marcoe – I’m curious as to how much direct experience you have with senior executives within the federal government. From what I understand, a good deal of the decision making comes from the senior federal employees, those who are not political appointees. I’m not willing to assume every political appointee is a complete dolt. I disagree with this administration’s policies, but being a Democrat doesn’t mean you need a drool cup. That’s unfair. Many of those selected for appointments are at the top of their professions. I have a good friend within the government, an avowed conservative, who briefed an Obama-appointed Deputy Secretary recently and found him to be very professional and competent. Folks like to take shots at how poorly government is run, but I don’t see many lining up to take jobs within government to improve it.
“From what I understand, a good deal of the decision making comes from the senior federal employees, those who are not political appointees.”
Which was especially my point in this case.
I’m not willing to assume every political appointee is a complete dolt.
I don’t believe I said that, anywhere.
I disagree with this administration’s policies, but being a Democrat doesn’t mean you need a drool cup.
I don’t believe I said this, either. I believe my particular point, implied in what I said, was that this administration had stuffed its cabinet-level positions–meaning heads of Departments; Secretary of State, Attorney General, etc.–with a bunch of fools, crooks and liars. The long string of craptacular decisions being made on a practically weekly basis doesn’t do much to controvert this finding.
Many of those selected for appointments are at the top of their professions.
Normally, yes. This administration has been abnormal in that and other regards.
I have a good friend within the government, an avowed conservative, who briefed an Obama-appointed Deputy Secretary recently and found him to be very professional and competent.
A Deputy Secretary is not a cabinet-level position, which is where my criticisms were directed.
Folks like to take shots at how poorly government is run…
This administration is suffering so many scandals and embarrassments, how could one not criticize? And if you’ve noticed, it’s being criticized from both ends of the political spectrum.
…but I don’t see many lining up to take jobs within government to improve it.
Massive amounts of corruption and nepotism might have something to do with that. However, there are many people who are stepping up to run for office in 2010. Even one of our own Threedonia alumni is doing so.
Yeah Karen and my bro in law had a meeting with an Obamabot this last week and found the guy to be a compelte douchebag. Sorry but my bro in laws experience carries a lot more weight.
The biggest surprise of all – I had no clue Grace Jones worked in the White House.
I get the feeling that that picture’s been “squozen.” In the original, she looks more like Queen Latifah.
