I assume when you ate your Corn Flakes there were no specks of sand in the bowl. How was your bed last night? Comfy? Did you sleep on a mattress? Roof over your head? Heat? When you walked to the end of the driveway to get the morning paper any concern that you might step on a landmine? IED? What’s on the agenda? Watch a little Football, maybe grab a burger and get a little Christmas shopping in? Anyone launching rocket propelled grenades at you as you motor to the mall? I didn’t think so.
I know you know there are honorable people living in intolerable conditions this Christmas so you can enjoy your Holiday with your loved ones. And I know you really intend to put together a care package and send it. You were going to do it Monday but then… and then yesterday, but… I’m the same way. I intend to do all kinds of great things, then I see something shiny, or hear a song I like on the radio…
Just do it. Stop. Take an hour. Look in your pantry, your DVD shelf. Hop in the car and run to Target or Wal-Mart. Salty and sweet snacks; peanuts, Fritos, candy bars. Oreos, Chips ahoy. Twinkies. DVDs. Movies, TV shows, music. Books. Magazines. Ladies’ personal care items. Letters. Personal cards and letters. Thank them. Tell them you appreciate what they do. Tell them. Just get it done.
Get it done. Mail it. This time tomorrow when you see a new reminder you can say to yourself, “I helped the troops.” How good is that going to make you feel? Do it for yourself. Do it to feel good. Then e-mail a link to everyone you know and ask them to help. Do it.

I happen to have some really good custom edits of films that I could burn off and send.
Well,
What would they like? What kind of movies, books?
I don’t want to send them something only to find out that they hate My Pretty Pony.
Rufus,
You are laying it on kinda thick. We have beds, heating and air conditioning, most members of my unit never go outside the wire (pilots excepted), we haven’t been shot at that much (this time, thank GOD), but it is the fourth year long tour over here for some of us. I have been here a grand total of 32 months and counting now, most members of our unit have been here at least twice and have missed Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthdays, anniversaries, births, funerals, you name it, the things that make up a normal life, most of us have missed out since this war began on 9/11/2001.
I hate My Pretty Pony, but I love Curious George!
As far as movies are concerned, you can never go wrong with comedy.
Thanks to everyone for their kindness and generosity…my Soldiers will greatly appreciate whatever they get!
