An off-hand comment by LawHawkSF over at Commentarama sent me on a web search:
Am I the only one who has noticed that when Obama speaks, his chin position is daily looking more like pictures of Mussolini?
After scouring the web for minutes, I can confidently announce that his comparison is completely unfair…
…to Mussolini.
(Also, I’m surprised at how many of Mussolini’s pictures show him playing with a friend on a jungle gym. Didn’t he know there was a war on?)

That’s it! Been buggin’ me for awhile and thanks, Sleuthy McMike!ington!!!
There might not have been a war on when the pictures were taken. Mussolini took power in the early 1930s.
That’s probably it. Plus, he was about 60 when WWII was going on. Kind of old to be swinging upside down like that with a girl.
They did look carefree, though!
Actually it was the 20s R3. 1922 to be exact.
What a perfect start to my weekend!
I noticed it. I just didn’t want to say anything…..
It’s the only way he is able to look down his nose at us little people.
Yeah, I’ve noticed it. I didn’t want to bring it up, though, because I figured it was a sort of a Gresham’s Law thing. But it’s weird.
What I can’t understand is how people can have the least respect for anybody who employs that mannerism.
I should have said, Godwin’s Law.
Lars, I noticed it too, like many of us Threedonians. This gesture, or posture, has probably always been part of his body language. It’s a posture of supreme self-satisfaction, a demagogue leading his populace down the rosy path to ruin.
He could be setting up to plug the right nostril and give a good “farmer’s blow” too though.
Get the President a chiropractor.
Mike: Thanks for the hat-tip and the pictures. I really was beginning to think I was hallucinating. Good to see photographic proof and verification from your readers. LOL
Glad to be of service, LawHawk.
He looks like he just bought a fleet of Priuses, and is enjoying scent of the “smug” that he’s releasing. (See the South Park episode if that doesn’t make sense to you.)
Benito does it better…and without a teleprompter
On a semi-related note, isn’t this also the face Joey Tribiani stole for “Smell the fart”?
Maybe if you’re focused on the pose you’re less likely to notice the ears.
I’m going to toss in a “Floydism” here, with a dog comparo, and say that both Mussolini and Obama have that spoiled, smug Rottweiler look on their faces. The kind of look that makes me want to kick the crap out of them both!
I’m with Fritz
He looks up to the right side then swings his head up to the left side. I’ve never seen him look at an audience, maybe his eyes can’t swivel down that far.
He’s making sure that everyone gets a good look at each profile.
That’s because he’s always only looking at what matters to him: the teleprompter (there’s one on each side).
