Happy Wednesday, all. I’ve been working too much this week and not hanging around Threedonia as much as I’d prefer.
I never thought of Santa as a Lucky Strike man. I imagined Santa as more of a cigar type.

More updates from my friend who knows things.
* What I told you yesterday about Reid wanting a vote over Christmas weekend leaked to the news this morning only he is now saying he wants to push for a Christmas Eve vote.
* No Republican rep (minus the turncoats) has seen a single word of the legislation since the closed door meetings with Dems started roughly 2 weeks ago.
* Obama’s come to Jesus (or in his case “Come to Me”) meetings have apparently really upset the
communistsocialistliberal members of the democrat party. There are rumors that they might hold their breath until they turn blue and try to tie up the vote…good news for us.* This part is not from my friend who knows things but from an executive conference call yesterday with several insurance big shots. With the public option off the table the murmurs of how they will force its implementation is two fold. First the obvious removal of pre-existing condition considerations which will dramatically drive up everyone’s premiums. Second the insurance mandate that will require health insurance with coverage “at minimal equal to Medicare” for everyone which will be a high dollar policy that few will be able to afford. Third, modifications to state Medicaid enrollment rules that will allow people who are unable to afford this new definition of “minimal coverage” to get coverage under state Medicaid. Expect many states to be none too pleased about this since the financial impact will misproportionately affect the states, but since the CBO only calculates federal expenditures expect really favorable CBO numbers by next Monday or Tuesday with a forced vote on the 24th, 26th or 27th.

Many of St. Nick’s close friends have talked to him privately about his shameless willingness to pimp pretty much any product if the money’s right. But after all, as P. J. O’Rourke has explained, the guy’s a Democrat.

O’Rourke explains it. God is a Republican. Santa is a Democrat. Santa gives you whatever you want, and you don’t have to do anything for it. God makes demands, and punishes you if you don’t fly right.
Santa is preferable to God in every way, except one–Santa doesn’t actually exist.

I don’t necessarily agree with his take on God. Jesus doesn’t seem to figure into that, but I get that he’s going for comedy, not a theological statement.
Tracy… I’m sure PJ is assuming a triune Godhead.
He talks a tough game but everyone ends up getting something anyway, and it never costs anyone anything (except for hard working parents but they owe it us all anyway).
That’s not exactly how PJ put it but I’m too lazy to get off my couch and look for the book. It’s in the spirit of what he said anyway.
My grandfather and dad were both Lucky Strike guys, therefore Santa is.

My “friend who knows things” (sorry I have to refer to the mas that but he’d get in trouble other wise) has said that is the rumor on the Hill and that no one is surprised about it.
I read the same report, Stephanie. They’re saying the WH is threatening him with closure of Offut AFB near Omaha if he doesn’t tow the party line and vote “for” this garbage bill.

A 700+ ammendment has been introduced by uber liberal Senator Bernie Sanders for the public option but it apparently goes even further and proposes universal Medicare. As my friend predicted liberals are rebelling now. Republicans are having fun with this and are going to attempt to read the entire ammendment on the floor.
Sounds fun.

And Bernie Sanders, arse hole extrodinaire had to pull the 700 page amendment.
Well Queen Pelosi has spoken and said there will be no compromise until early next year, they are shooting for the State of the Union.
Its hilarious…they can’t quit. What a waste of time.
The longer this bill goes, the more trouble they put themselves in.
Let’s consider a worse case scenario for a second. The two most ruinous elements–the Public Option and Medicare Buy-In–are gone, so we aren’t a facing quite the same apocalyptic scenario. Second, this thing doesn’t kick in till 2014. As John Hawkins pointed out, they’ve just ceded the next three elections cycles to the GOP, who will pledge to repeal it. And as I’ve already demonstrated, a little creative thinking can create an exit strategy the Dems have no arguments for.
Or rather, worst case scenario.
David the really damaging aspects that are in there now are the insurance mandate which will drive up cost by flooding the market with high risk insured, the removal of pre-existing conditions which will drive up cost by again dramatically altering the risk pool, and perhaps the most damaging is the $500 billion in Medicare cuts which is centered primarily on a 21% cut in Medicare Fee Schedule that will both force many physicians into retirement and all but destroy small private practices (this will primarily affect rural and poor areas). The Medicare cuts also include the elimination of the Medicare Advantage programs which currently insure around 13 to 15 million seniors.
This bill is still very, very dangerous and still ultimately a death nail to the healthcare industry which is the largest white collar employer in the nation. We can’t take our eye off the ball.
See this is what kills me. I have a pre condition and I’m being raped to the tune of 600+ a month. There has to be something done about this. If it wasn’t for HIPPAA (sic?) I’d get nothing at all.
The legislative proposal Veruckt will significantly lessen, if not erase, pre-conditions as an issue. I think the solution we have for that might be a bit of a revolution.
I’d love to hear it, because I’m really at the end of my rope here. I’m waiting to hear on an application to another health care plan. wait and hope the damage isn’t too bad, if they even bother at all.

Seton Motely posted that Bernie Sander’s is now saying he won’t vote for this bill if it doesn’t have a Public Option or forces more people onto Medicare eariler. Leftist mouth breathers eating their own? Oh and yeah, the rumor going around which Hannity has been perpetuating is that Ben Nelson was threated by that a-hole Rahm over Strategic Air Command. I’d say OK go for. Has to be a bluff.
