Of course, Potter shows his face and it’s Jon Lovitz – who else.

Amazing how good that show once was and how miserable it is now.

Ah, if Frank Capra were only alive to have seen this! :-)

i think old timers syndrome applies to snl as well …

watched the real film last night with the missus and the family. our older boys even seemed to like it even though they all groused about watching a black and white film beforehand. what a great, great movie.

And it should be mentioned – this skit was from the same Shatner episode that produced the infamous “Star Trek Convention” meltdown. Can you think of two skits the last 10 years as good as those two – and those were from just one episode.

Off the top of my head, the only one that comes to mind is the famous cowbell sketch. But, in retrospect, I wonder if it would be as fondly remembered if: a.) all but one of the cast members didn’t laugh during the sketch, and b.) Christopher Walken wasn’t involved.

I’ve been watching episodes of Newsradio on Hulu (even though I own the DVDs) and man, I miss Phil Hartman.

i heard the cowbell sketch fell flat during rehearsal, so will ferrell found a shirt a few sizes too small to wear live.

i like some of andy samberg’s digital shorts … like this one serenading Ahmadinejad.

        hartman was great on newsradio.

“have you ever kissed a girl?” … that one? that’s a good.

i don’t ever really watch the show much, plus my memory sucks. it just seems each generation wishes the prior snl cast was still doing a run. it’s like spinal tap (or caddyshack, or …); i can swap quotes all day long, but going back and watching it all the way through … the highlight reel’s usually better.

I am fortunate to have older siblings who were teenagers in the era of the first cast of SNL. Because they were watching I was too – even though I didn’t get a lot of the jokes at the time. Just think how small the first cast was and how much talent they had. I remember the first appearance of the Blues Brothers and looking at my sister wondering if they were for real. Garrett Morris is one of the unsung cast members from that era. I loved Ackroyd as Julia Child. I remember when Bill Murray was the new kid.
    Good times…except for Al Franken.

For me, SNL was the original cast with Bill Murray replacing Chevy Chase, and then it wasn’t good again until they had the seasons with Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscopo. Then it was the season with Martin Short, Christopher Guest, and Billy Crystal. Dennis Miller was the best news guy they ever had, and the last great season was the one with Christ Farley. Since then, the show has just blown. Thank God for MADTV when they had their greatest seasons to give us something funny to watch in that time slot. When MADTV was at its best, it gave any SNL cast a run for its money.
