Never let it be said the New York Times can’t occasionally get something right these days. Similar in excellent tone and reverence to the cinematic memorial TCM recently took, a tribute to 2009′s losses in the music world.
Also, courtesy the fine folks at Billboard, an incredibly sad look back at the many musicians/performers’ deaths the decade had as well. Still hard to believe 75% of the original Ramones lineup passed away in the last few years, not to mention the harsh reminders Joe Strummer and “Dimebag” Darrell were taken far too early.
Somehow both these otherwise great looks back inexplicably neglected to mention Billy Preston and Jim Dickinson. Fortunately, as mentioned here recently, I do not harbor a prejudice against the mighty contribution of ivory ticklers to rock and roll or the world boogie. With huge thanks for the tunes, may they all rest in peace.

Not to be too disrespectful, but it’s kinda hard to think anyone nicknamed “Dimebag” could die too early. The wonder is that he lived so long.
1966-2004, gunned down by a crazed “fan” during a show. A fellow Texan at that for you, too, Turbo. Dmebag, not the killer, as far as I know.
