The new Census forms contain the word “Negro” as one choice for Blacks. Whoopsie. Actually they found that some elderly Blacks still self-referred as “Negro” hence the inclusion of the term on the form.
I think the form should also include Oriental, Mexican, Injun, Eskimo, Retarded, Midget, and Polish (which is a pejorative remember).

I remember the Toughskins line. Brings to mind my grade school years and one particular boy who wore a whole rainbow of Toughskins, from maroon to green. They did hold up well and he was still wearing them into middle school, or junior high as it was known in those days.

According to the t-shirt, Hispanic and Mexican ARE NOT the same thing AT ALL. Duh.
Technically true you could be a caucasian and still be a Mexican. Just as Charlize Theron is an African. The t-shirt wearing folks you refer to Tracy should take a history class and not just the parts that they like.

During the Sotomayor SCOTUS nomination Mark Levin reminded his listeners that prior to the 1970 census the Hispanic ‘race’ did not exist. Apparently it was Nixon’s idea to make Hispanic a racial category rather than just an ethnic identity.
“So Nixon threw his weight behind bilingual education, which has since become a bete noire for the GOP. He also ordered the Census Bureau to add a query on its 1970 form asking whether respondents were “Hispanic,” hoping to further solidify this new voting bloc.
Census Bureau officials balked, noting — correctly — that the term lacked scientific and historical precision. They also worried that respondents wouldn’t recognize it. So the most commonly used census form in 1970 asked respondents if they were of “Spanish” origin, not whether they were Hispanic.”
I disagree with this author’s opinion on Sotomayor’s fitness for SCOTUS but the revelation of how ethnicity becomes a racial identity is interesting.
