What is income? Doesn’t the flat tax tax income? My understanding is the flat tax is a non-progressive income tax with a much lower rate than the current tiers. Flat tax proponents give a rebate to those who earn under a certain level, to make sure the poor don’t have to bear an unfair burden (and that makes it a little progressive), but over a certain level everyone pays the same, low-ish rate (15%?).

I don’t dislike that. I think it’s better than what we have today, but I don’t understand why the rich simply won’t find ways to hide their income. And when they do Congress will have to write tax code that codifies their crimes, which means there will have to be disclosure forms that we fill out, and those won’t fit on a post-card, and, in rather short order we’re back where we are today.

Anyone know the details?

Relax, I was asking because I honestly didn’t know if you mistook what I said and was making sure I wasn’t coming off as sanctimonious; I only have your text to work off of and was trying to avoid a misunderstanding. If I had a dollar for every time I’ve gotten into trouble because I misread someone or missed something they had said, I would be able to make a sizable dent in our national deficit.
