What an odd year for weather. We very unexpectedly got hit with snow again last night but since it was pretty warm we only ended up with an inch or two (enough to paralyze the state of TN). Our weathermen seem even more clueless than usual.
Oddly enough, here in the Pacific Northwest we’ve had the mildest winter I can remember. We haven’t had any snow at all thus far, and at the moment the sun is shining and the sky is blue. Go figure that things would be so mild here of all places, while the rest of the country looks like Jack Frost went on a bender.
Looking at 12 inches here at Chitown. (And I’m not talking about checking myself out after a shower – ba-BING!). Nothin’ unusual in that, but global warming? NOT!
You know I just want us to get a respectable snow, say a foot or so, that eliminates even the possibility of driving anywhere. Basically I want to be snowed in. This happened when I lived in Denver back in 2003 and the city was paralyzed by a bit over 4 feet of snow. It was like being 8 years old again for a week. Great times.
Snowing here right now. We had eight inches from the weekend and expect another eight today, with an inch or two more in the morning. Was hoping we’d slip through this winter unscathed, but not the case.
Calling in sick so you can be at the ballpark on opening day.
[Note to Scott M.: Football season is finally over and pitchers/catchers report to spring training this month. Any snarky anti-baseball posts will be deleted. You have been warned.]
Yeah no kidding. They had Monday off, a pre-emptive day for today for absolutely no reason and they are getting tomorrow off. I’m supposed to work at a government location on Monday but I might not be able to, according to the manager at the facility the government could be off all week and no one is at the office to call to get clearance for parking.
The adult equivalent of a snow day is when the house your apartment is in has a large parking area, a 50 foot driveway, no plow or snowblower, and you pick up the phone and tell work you won’t be in that day. Man, I miss those days.
Not sure how I feel about Nolan working on the Superman franchise. I’m certainly a big fan of what he’s done with Batman, but then the Batman universe lends itself to his cold, dark style.
Superman, on the other hand, is about the American ideal of hope and optimism, and I haven’t found that in any of Nolan’s films. Bryan Singer tried bringing more grit and moral complexity to Superman, and look how that turned out.
Like I said, I’m a big fan of Nolan’s, and I’m hoping for the best here, but I’m not sure what to expect.
I think Nolan will be good because he understands characters. He brought the darkness to Batman because that style works with that character. He is certainly smart enough to understand why Singer’s film failed. I think this is a good thing for Superman, even though I’ve never been a huge fan of the character.
Nolan is probably my favorite director working right now. If anyone could end up being the next Hitchcock, it’s him.
You know nwhats bizarre? To have a doc look at the ct scans you had done and say well it l;ooks like you have some lung tissue missing…subtext..its scar tissue. Freaky.

I just spent the weekend in the Pacific Northwest. Beautiful!
“Our weathermen seem even more clueless than usual.”
yet somehow Algore knows the weather/ climate future years from now.

There’s so much irony here that I think my head is about to explode.

Veruckt,we got about 4 inches down here, but it was the nice fluffy stuff, not the lousy sleet and freezing rain we had about 10 days ago

All this snow makes me miss being in school. Few things in life match the joy of a snow day. Is there an adulthood equivalent of a snow day?

V,
only if you’re a federal employee

Did you get snow?? I’m so excited for you!
That was meant for V.
And stupid if I had read all the open thread comments before. I had the day “off”, my brain is dead.

Getting a CT scan on my sinus ‘. Fun. Doc is cool.
Apparently Superman will be produced, or “mentored” by Christopher Nolan. Now if only Sony could put him in charge of Spiderman . . .
