Happy New Year

A day late and a dollar short no doubt, but here’s to everyone in Threedonia having a great New Year.

I’ve been hearing a lot of chatter on the news, etc. about how 2008 was probably the worst year in everyone’s life who is younger than 70. Let’s see… victory in Iraq (or purt near close), gas down to less than $2/gallon, 93% of potential workforce employed, most folks who own their own homes are NOT in foreclosure (by a very wide margin), a Black man elected President (regardless of Obama that IS a big thing culturally — whether or not it SHOULD be a big thing), etc., etc. 2008 was a pretty damn good year overall (save for personal tragedies of course) for the U.S. Do I hope 2009 is better? Of course I do — the Cowboys screwed up mightily — they must do better. All I ask for 2009 is for some better perspective.

  • i know some folks who are part of the 93%, but sadly, i am not. so, as you say, its the perspective.

Hang in there bpb… I’ve got some friends in that 7% too.

Is your website a consulting thing or are were you in banking and hit by the Sept. crash.

  • Two reasons why 2009 is better so far (despite Penn State not realizing they were playing in the Rose Bowl till about 45 minutes too late): Patriots and Cowboys aren’t in the playoffs. Sorry, ‘boys backers. I stopped caring about them the second Jerry Jones ditched Tom Landry.

All I can say is this is the first time in my life that I can safely say the News Media infected the thinking of the American people so our perspective was what the Media manufactured.
Today I was listening to the Jim Rome show and those two nitwit twins the Sklar Brothers or in my opinion gay and gayer were on. I felt like calling in asking if Barbara or Maddona were doing the show because thats what those idiots sounded like and whats worse they were chirping a MAIN STREAM ATTITUDE…
When the butthead said we were losing in Iraq I changed the channel to Mark Steyn on Rush Limbaugh. If I hadn’t I think I would have crashed the car I was so mad. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR…but thats the attitude and that is just how shallow and stupid the 60 million who voted for Obamawan and think their lives suck really are.

  • Floyd, being a ‘boys backer, where do you stand on T.O.?

(Personally, I’d stand right about on his adam’s apple if he were on with the Bears, but that’s just me…)

  • How can someone (with a brain in their head) claim that we are loosing in Iraq, today, right now. That is just ridiculous, for someone to suggest that…and sop totally ignorant of what is actually occurring. IDIOTS.

  • T.O. is an idiot, he wouldn’t be playing on the Cowboys if Tom Landry were the coach. I thought for a while there he may have seen the light, but when the chips were down he showed his true colors.

Hell, Tom Landry benched Drew Pearson for spiking the ball between his legs after a touchdown.

The Cowboys only hope right now is for Zombie Tom Landry to come back and coach.

Here’s an article that may be of some interest from the Fort Worth Star Telegram about Romo…I couldn’t agree with this guy more. Especially the part about him being Mister Smirky after they got their asses handed to them.

Rich… T.O. I honestly think in Dallas he’s getting a bit of a raw deal — not that he hasn’t earned the lack of the benefit of the doubt.

Almost every WR in today’s game is a prima donna. They all complain about not getting the ball. The way the league is structured and marketed — that’s how they get paid. I think the T.O., Jason Witten, Tony Romo thing was way overblown too. As long as he’s catching the ball I like him. They weren’t throwing to him so he was right — even if obnoxious about it. T.O. — hated the old one; seems to have been mostly a positive here — even with the suicide attempt. (ed. Wow! Never thought I’d say those words.)

  • Sorry man, but I’m with Outlaw on this one. Every team the guy touches ends up going to hell – it can’t be coincidence. And I agree that most good WR’s are prima-donnas (with exceptions, like Steve Smith, Marvin Harrison, and others), but this guy is pure poison.

Rich… normally I think you’re right, but I think the play calling has been so awful this year — as Romo said — defenses have caught up to what they’re doing.

I won’t cry if he goes, but they better replace him with someone who can catch and run.

  • as Romo said — defenses have caught up to what they’re doing.

That’s a lame ass excuse and he knows it.

Against the good teams you get X number of chances, if you blow those chances by throwing an interception, fumbling or just dropping the pass…that’s the difference between a team that wins and guys who aren’t in the playoffs like the Cowboys.

If you go back to last Sunday and looked at the game, Dallas was moving the ball pretty well, but they would inevitably self destruct…and that isn’t Garret’s fault.

Throwing up an interception just before the half isn’t the coordinator’s fault. Leaders take responsibility even when it isn’t exactly their fault…because they are leaders. Romo isn’t one…at least not now he’s not.

OK I have a cure for what ailes Cowboy fans. This video was made by an Eagles fan…of course….probably a denizen of the Old Vets 700 seats…

I used to respect the Cowboys but after what Jerry Jones did to Landry…uh huh…no way….

  • Until Romo proves he can lead a team when it matters in December, he deserves the C-list girlfriend he’s got. T.O. also deserves the lack of throws until he quits dropping far too many passes that hit him that bad spot he calls his hands.

  • Floyd

The players play no doubt or screw up, but coaching also matters. When Wade Phillips took hands on control of the D they started to kick ass. So Garrett bears some blame. If he gets credit when they do well, then he gets the arrows too. Romo’s been taking his fair share of heat and he’s only 3 years in as starter so he’s still got some wet behind his ears. T.O. is probably gone and that’s OK, though I think they can win with him. Patrick Crayton seems to a troublemaker too.

Very few QBs do well in year 1. Dan Marino, Tom Brady of course (with zero expectations), etc., much less by year 3. We’ll see.

I think Garrett’s got a lot of moxie and smarts. I think Romo’s upside outweighs his downside. T.O…. meh.

  • If you’d like to read my complete take on this I’ve put a rant up over at http://www.guidons.blogspot.com

    Romo = Meridith
