Why 96 tears? Why not 94, or 97? Nothing in the song rhymes with six. Can you even count tears? I’ve seen people shed 1 tear, but once you’re past one it’s a question of duration, not quantity, isn’t it? Why 96?

The band, was originally formed in 1962 and was called XYZ. The song was released in 1966.

What was the Stephen King trilogy where wife of the guy who was trying to quit smoking did the dance on the electro-shock floor to the tune of 96 Tears? And does anybody know where to get one of those things? It would be very useful with the kids.
