Oi. Not looking good healthcare vote wise. That crazy b*tch Pelosi is going to find a way to get this through rules be damned. The problem with our Congress etc is they simply have too much latitude to change the rules as they see fit. It looks like at this point we should be planning on how to go about repealling the abysmal mess. By the way as a nice bonus they have written in the Federal Government taking over student loans into the healthcare legislation.
No that was part of the house bill, the Senate bill had it cut out. The unions are looking at this as a good thing because ultimately it will expand their size, specically the AFL-CIO (the largest single lobby group in the US) which is the Federal Workers union. With the massive oversight and controls placed in this bill over healthcare tens of thousands of new Federal Workers will be required which of course means tens of thousands of new union members.
I just heard Van Clyburn said they didn’t have the votes, so your saying? Just sit back and ignore the bs. Watch what they are saying themselves. They won’t get a vote before Easter now.
And just remember, if we bend the rules to catch terrorists plotting attacks against us, we’re fascists who are shredding the constitution. But if we bend the rules to socialize healthcare, the ends totally justify the means.
Yes we are actually getting married in Trenton Maine right outside of Bar Harbor. The early plan is an outdoor wedding so I’m just keeping my fingers crossed for good weather, though I do have am alternate indoor location.
You’ll also note that the time stamp also indicates that Rufus was penning his guess contemporaneously, so was unaware of Lars’ guess. You’ll also note Rufus was able to associate Floyd’s rebus with today’s date, thus making his guess far superior to Lars’ wild, nonsensical hunch.
Wish someone would do a more accurate account of Boyington’s life. Read “Black Sheep One” a while ago – an excellent read and very well researched. Definitely more accurate than Boyington’s own book.
“Every year, English teachers from across the country can submit their collections of actual similes and metaphors found in high school essays. These excerpts are published each year to the amusement of teachers across the country. Here are last year’s winners:”
some excerpts
“From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality, like when you’re on vacation in another city and Jeopardy comes on at 7:00 p.m. instead of 7:30.”
“Shots rang out, as shots are known to do.”
“John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met.”
He may not have been the first, but Douglas Adams certainly used that turn of phrase before in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: “The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don’t.”
The wedding isn’t until October so maybe break out that thread in September. Honestly I don’t see why people get so stressed out planning weddings. It’s really not that bad and I’ve handled all the planning, grant it ours is a small wedding.
Never used to miss an episode of that show. Of course I was only 10 at the time – and was only watching it for the Corsairs. Sorry, Mustangs, Corsairs just have a little more “personality.”
My brother, who is a pastor, once had a congregation member who’d been a WWII flyer, and who said he’d once punched Pappy Boyington in the nose. Boyington was, he said, a drunk and a jerk.
Of that, I have no doubt. Mentioned, above, reading “Black Sheep One.” Recommend reading it, over Boyington’s own account. You can definitely see how he wound up the way he did.
For those of you who don’t use Netflix, their website often lists recommendations based on the movies you’ve watched in the past. But sometimes their recommendations can be a bit, um, unexpected.
For example, I recently watched two gritty foreign dramas: “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days,” about a woman trying to get an abortion in communist Romania, and “Head-On,” about a doomed love affair between two Turkish immigrants in Germany. Based on these two movie viewings, Netflix recommended…Superfly. WTF?!
Well, to be fair, when I was watching the Romanian movie, I was thinking to myself, “damn that dictator Ceausescu was one jive-ass cracker, and someone oughtta bust a cap in his honkey ass.”
Down boy. Though the good Dr. went without mention, someone gave you props for Black Caesar. Wasn’t I, but know I saw it (Scott, I think). Get back to me when your reviews only get 1-2 (appreciated) comments.
Which reminds me, if you haven’t listened to Eric’s new parody, you absolutely need to. It is first rate. Great lyrics and really good musicianship. If one guy truly played all the instruments he has a lot of talent. It’s as good as anything you would hear on Rush or Mike Church.
Well, gawrsh, thankyuhkindly, sir! I’m a word-man with rudimentary rhythm guitar skills (and nowhere near any instruments on “Just Keep Your Hands to Yourself”), so I do whatever possible to surround myself with great musicians. Kingsizemaybe‘s Gary Eaton’s one of the best, too (a-mazing master of the power pop tradition to boot), and that’s indeed him on everything but the lyrics, including the 1-2-3-4.
Is there anything better than hunkering down in a huge classroom (empty) putting on a movie on the big screen (I love LCD projectors) — the movie was Arlington Road and grading papers… now I’m listening to The Dark KNight soundtrack.
OK there are better things… but not from a work perspective (at least from this perch).
Arlington Road was a great movie, Floyd. I especially liked Bridges’ speech about how our society is in denial about terrorism: “We don’t want to hear about organizations. We want one man, and we want our security back.”
Of course, that movie was made back when Clinton was in the White House, and it was about white, American, right-wing terrorists, so a speech like that was okay.
In college we would sneak into the lecture hall and watch movies on the big screen. Stadium seating, surround sound, and free. And we never got caught.
James West!! One of the most inventive cowpokes ever to be seen on network television. (OK, Artie was inventive, too!)
I don’t recognize the one giving me the finger.
It’s a puzzle… a weak one, but nonetheless…
I assumed as much… “Go West?”
nope.
Gregory Boyington you?
Westpoint?
Today, March 16th, is the 208th Anniversary of West Point’s founding?
Ding ding ding!

I’m not sure why unions are spending 1.3 million to advertise for passing this piece of garbage. Isn’t taxing cadillac plans still in it?

Hey,V,did you and the future Mrs. V decide where to tie the knot?
Yes we are actually getting married in Trenton Maine right outside of Bar Harbor. The early plan is an outdoor wedding so I’m just keeping my fingers crossed for good weather, though I do have am alternate indoor location.
West Point?
You’ll note that the time stamp places my guess before Rufus’.

Funny, now that I take a second look at the time stamp it appears mine pre-dates yours…
It’s good to be King.
It’s good to have a flux capacitor.
I call shenanigans.
Is that a toll call, or intralata?
It’s an Indian Love Call, since Customer Service was moved to Mumbai.

And those corsairs were just plain cool!
YES! Accuracy AND Corsairs!

Those are brilliant. Thinking back to my high school essays, there is a good chance I have made appearances on this list.
9. The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn’t.
You really can’t argue with the logic of any of these.
He may not have been the first, but Douglas Adams certainly used that turn of phrase before in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: “The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don’t.”
Hey,when are we going to have a Threedonia bachelor party for Veruckt? He’s our bud,he deserves a wedding thread!!
The wedding isn’t until October so maybe break out that thread in September. Honestly I don’t see why people get so stressed out planning weddings. It’s really not that bad and I’ve handled all the planning, grant it ours is a small wedding.
Since we’ve seen many children’s musical tributes to Our Dear Leader, thought I’d share some children’s artwork that praises The One.
Ugh. I feel nauseous.
Thanks Karen… for depressing me.

That is too funny! You ought to give it a view, see if they know you better than you know you.
Well, to be fair, when I was watching the Romanian movie, I was thinking to myself, “damn that dictator Ceausescu was one jive-ass cracker, and someone oughtta bust a cap in his honkey ass.”
and abortion is a huge problem in the Black community and some of them are commies — or at least vote that way.
Maybe Netflix is a nuanced guide to political views.
And no one guessed or at least typed the answer to yesterday’s puzzle… Julius (Erving) and (Black) Caesar for the Ides of March.
Down boy. Though the good Dr. went without mention, someone gave you props for Black Caesar. Wasn’t I, but know I saw it (Scott, I think). Get back to me when your reviews only get 1-2 (appreciated) comments.

Instead of Dr. J. you should have used a shot of Clyde Drexler and the Budweiser Clydesdales. You know, the Clydes of March.

I would think the day the co-eds have a car wash fund raiser would be a good day, but that’s just me. Grading papers by yourself sounds fun too.
Floyd

Why does the song “It’s a Small World” sound so much better in French than in English?
Kit,why does the Auburn Fight Song sound better than Alabama’s?
