This Baier Gives Headaches

We spend a fair amount of time bashing mainstream media journalist types around here — after all they generally suck or worse — they mislead. Well FOX News’ Brett Baier interviewed Rufus’ favorite President the other day and hit it out of the park. He did an outstanding job. Obama — arrogance on display (why is arrogance almost always accompanied by ignorance?) first in thinking he could handle Baier one on one and second in not knowing a damn thing about his pet program. It was a fine — albeit rare — moment in the history of journalism. Kudos to you Brett Baier. Threedonians everywhere raise our PBRs to you.

Salute!

Huzzah, Brett! He never backed down when O was trying to bully him.

  • Rush played a media montage of commentators aghast at how “contentious” it is … journalism simply can’t sink much lower, can it?

    • JimmyC

I heard that montage too, Christian- hilarious stuff.

How did these people all decide to use the word “contentious” or some variation thereof? Do they all get together first thing in the morning and make a pact to report the day’s news exactly the same way? Or maybe one of them does it and the rest simply copy him rather than trying to do their own work.

Yeah that interview was like child abuse. Obama came across as uninformed, arrogant, and down right unlikable. That reminded me of the Palin killing interview with Katie Couric except Brett clearly wasn’t looking for a “gotcha” he was just asking logical questions and Obama is not used to being questioned.

One thing I would have done differently is asked him about the uninsured numbers which he has quoted as; 45 million, 12 million, 17 million, and now 31 million. I would have brought up his contradicting numbers and then said “after seeing this massive fluctuation in numbers can you honestly tell me we really have any idea how many Americans are uninsured?”

Brett scored some major points, here, as a credible journalist. Hope FOX invites our less-than-president back for a discussion with Brit Hume.

  • “Let me finish…” but God forbid he not step all over Baier. What else is new? Sigh…

  • JimmyC

Much as it pains me, I’ve gotta give Obama credit for appearing on Fox News in the first place. His handlers were no doubt screaming at him not to do it. But he was willing to briefly step out of his echo chamber and give someone else a chance to challenge him, so hopefully the interview with Baier will give him something to think about.

See Jimmy I disagree here. I think it was, as with most things with “The One”, hubris. I believe he took that interview thinking he was too smart, too charismatic, and too Obama for them. He thought he’d control the interview and come off looking like a champion of the people instead of a clueless dunderhead who is trying to get around the annoyances of a Democratic Republic.

Did it occur to ya’ll he did it because he is desperate? Think about it: Why would the man who hates FOX news so much he declared war on it the last year and 3 months go on FOX if he didn’t need to? I was watching and smirking..oh and how does Hawaii get connected to Katrina relief. What a dolt. The man did nothing to help himself. Not. One. Thing.
And they passed the Slaughter rule or whatever the f they want to call it…and two guys who said they would vote against it voted for it.
Altmeier and some other guy whose name escaped me. Now people if you haven’t called and raised hell or written that email go do it. NOW!

    • Re Hawaii earthquake… I’m gonna call “mis-speak” on that one. I hated it when they slammed Bush for such innocent mistakes so I guess turnabout is fair play, but no one seriously thinks he meant Hawaii when “Haiti” had the most recent devastating earthquake close to home.

Now the connection between Mary Landrieu’s corrupt bitch act and the Haiti quake? That is idiotic. :-)

      • Sure, Floyd, but seeing as he hung out in his home-state after the 12/25/09 terrorist attack, it must be hard for him to differentiate.

      • Stephanie

Dude he does not get a freebie for that. Uh uh..no way. He wanted to be President now he gets the whole 9 yards. No get out of jail free cards for that gaff. Besides its too awesome to allow it a free pass.

I was dreading the end of Hume’s tenure on the show, but Baier has been fantastic. Personally, I’d like to see more “contentious” interviews involving individuals from either party. The fact Obama was so taken aghast at the hard questioning (he had that “Tom Cruise with Matt Lauer” look in his eye) says a lot.

  • Have you ever seen his home? He’s got a sweet bar… in his living room.

  • Dooley

Ignorance and arrogance are a deadly combination.

  • Magnus Caseus Formatis

I think that’s “the difference between ignorance and apathy.” ;-)

  • Leave it to Fox news to actually ASK HIM QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!!!
