Kingdom of the Spiders (1977) A swarm of huge tarantulas, enraged by the misuse of pesticides, try to take over their part of the world. Dr. Robert Hansen (William Shatner), a local Arizona veterinarian joins forces with entomologist Diane Ashley (Tiffany Bolling) to keep the spider population under control. 9:35 PM PDT. Independent Film Channel.
I hate spiders… but this is a cult classic — part of the decade that produced Night of the Lepus, Swarm, Orca and of course the grand daddy of all pissed off creature flicks Jaws — though Jaws was not some leftist environmentalist or anti-nuke screed… perhaps that’s why it’s a classic and the rest are classically bad popcorn flicks. The Shat rules of course — this could only be better if he spoke in Esperanto.
On Sundance tomorrow at 9:00 PM PDT… it’s not a classic (but might be like the original The Hitcher and Duel), but it is a movie that should’ve gotten released and instead went to straight to DVD — is 2004′s Highwaymen starring Jim Caviezel, Colm Fiore. a Barracuda, and a 1972 Cadillac El Dorado. Here’s the trailer…

I remember seeing Kingdom of the Spiders on TV when I was a kid and being extremely creeped out by it, especially the ending, which is a punch to the gut.
I agree – this movie is still creepy. It works well considering and yes, worth seeing for Shatner.
Trog is another pissed off creature flick. Bonus points for featuring Joan Crawford at her absolute low point. You can practically hear Bette Davis cackling with joy.
The woman with the revolver is the best part. I’d like to know how many spiders died making it.
This movie can’t be any worse than Giant Spider Invasion.
This is right up there with Empire of the Ants.
