We didn’t have much discussion ’round these parts on Robert Reich’s testimony that we need to create jobs that don’t all go to skilled professionals and white male construction workers. Apparently he hasn’t been to California because I haven’t seen a white facing working on our roads since El Camino Real was a working highway and that one was built by forced Mexican/Indian labor in any case.
So how is creating a bunch of jobs for unskilled folks going to stimulate the economy? The roads and parks around here are pretty damn dirty. I thought these menial — unskilled — jobs were work Americans won’t do? I guess now Reich wants them to do what — go to school for 2 years first for some skilz? That is a lot of foreplay before the stimulus. Do these people not see that once the roads are built the jobs are gone? What then? New highways? Monorails to nowhere?
The “white” remark? Where to start? How ’bout none of this goes to Black female bus drivers, female Hispanic housekeepers, white female kindergarten teachers, or Vietnamese donut shop owners, or Polish environmental technocrats (or whatever Rich’s job title is)?
Give the money to people who create jobs Comrade Reich. Hopefully Congress will ignore such dubious advice, but I’m not hopeful.
