… a great article from my wife’s cousin. Unrelated, but with a hearkening to one of Hopper’s greatest roles …
“FDR smoked Chesterfields; he was smoking one when he drove past us in a convertible, and flicked the cigarette to the ground. It landed at the feet of one of my buddies to the left of me. The look on his face stated he had every intention of grabbing it as a keepsake and as soon as FDR passed he dove for it…from my knowledge, he held on to the cigarette butt for the rest of his life.”

My dad used to smoke Chesterfields. Short little, no filter job that smoked hot like a rolled up newspaper!
Memorial Day is at an end. Time for some tea and
strumpetscrumpets! My Dad smoked Lucky’s, Chesterfields, Camels, Cigars, and a pipe with the best apple tobacco ever. Mom smoked filter tipped Taringtons. In fact back in the 70′s and 80′s, she’d send an 8 year old yours truly to buy her her cigarettes and I would. Pop for me and my friends and a pack of ciggies for her. Try doing that NOW days. And trust me I knew never to touch her cigarettes beyond handing them to her. My Dad’s were off limit to…he stopped smoking pretty much around the house and would occassionally have one at the bar but that was it.
My brother smoked Marlboro Reds and Camel straights….
