Cute video. I don’t know who these guys are but they do some kid-themed songs, which is just dandy, but you shouldn’t do kid-themed songs if this is your band name. We listen to an all kid music station every morning on the way to school and my little daughter winces when she hears this band’s name, as she should.
I just read about them on wikipedia. I’ve changed my mind. It’s the DJ on the kids’ station who is at fault. Apparently a lot of folks, including themselves, often refer to them simply as “BNL.” The DJ’s a dufus for not doing the same.
I like these guys, especially “One Week.” I have been wondering who did the “Big Bang” theme song every week when we watched it and that makes perfect sense. You’re so educational, Outlaw.
I like TMBG, and they play kids’ music well, but there’s something missing from their kid songs. They all start out really good, with good ideas, but never quite get there.
As we’ve covered here before, “Istanbul” is a cover, but “Particle Man” is a great example of what I mean. I like “Particle Man” too, and it starts off really good but it doesn’t go anywhere. They Might Be Giants songs are like Saturday Night Live sketches. They’re based on good, clever ideas, but they don’t end smartly.
I suppose “I Palindrome I” is my favorite of theirs, although “Ana Ng” is probably their most melodious effort. Most of their song’s melodies are just like this one, or “I Palindrome I.”
Exactly, you’re the second or third person to cite, “Istanbul” as your favorite song of theirs. It’s clever from beginning to end. And… they didn’t write it.
I like They Might be Giants too, but they seem more clever than they really are. Most of their songs sound alike and each starts with a clever idea, but none really goes anywhere.
Compare Trout Fishing in America’s A-B-C song with They Might be Giants counting song. Trout Fishing in America is a similar group that does similar children’s music. When you compare the two side by side They Might be Giants doesn’t even come close as far as musical or lyrical cleverness. I hate to admit it myself, but They Might be Giants is a group that seems much cooler and more clever than they actually are. Kind of like the Partridge Family.

Dorks.
They do the theme song from Big Bang Theory as well. You seriously don’t know this band?

I really should like these guys more. Still can’t figure out why I don’t…
Love. These. Guys. They put on an awesome concert, too.

As usual, the Great One pays homage…
I love BNL. “If I Had a Million Dollars” was a standard around here several years ago, tho I always reminded my kids you can’t buy love.
I think BNL kinda jumped on the TMBG bandwagon with the kid music. Really like TMBG, too:
The sun is a mass of incandescent gas
A gigantic nuclear furnace
where hydrogen is built into helium
at a temperature of millions of degrees.
I like TMBG, and they play kids’ music well, but there’s something missing from their kid songs. They all start out really good, with good ideas, but never quite get there.
Ever see their video podcasts, with the knit puppets? Those are why I like their kid stuff.
Otherwise, I’ll take Road Movie to Berlin or Minimum Wage.
I’m kinda partial to “Particle Man” or “Istanbul” myself.

I think you’re right. But I still like them.
Speaking of good, clever idea that don’t end smartly.
No.
My fav TMBG song…

If I knew how to embed I’d put up Craig Ferguson’s Istanbul -
or this one
