I trust y’all had a great Labor Day Weekend… the numbers were so low it qualified for Polish higher mathematics. The MMQB today is supersized to take into account the extra day’s snore-fest festivities.
Wanks once again kicked off the weekend officially asking you who your favorite movie cowboys were. Hers only wore assless chaps cowboy hats. Sticking with entertainment… check out this profile of The Shat. Eric posted this appreciation of the awesome — and awesomely under appreciated — 1980s film Three O’Clock High. This weekend also marked the beginning of the college football season as well as the intensity of baseball’s home stretch and so of course we talked sports. Eric posted this homage to one of his favorite baseball players — Bill Lee, I posted this message sent to Ben Roethlisberger by his Steeler teammates, and I posted this — perhaps the coolest sports story of the past decade — and I am not kidding.
Obviously we blogged a bit on politics as well. What would Labor Day be without massive unemployment and incompetents in charge? Did we mention incompetence in the Administration? And apparently Mexicans are sensitive about their flag. Too bad they’re not so sensitive to shitty government. Did I mention incompetence in the White House? John FN surfaced to fill us in on Victor Davis Hanson’s latest brilliance. Is the health care bill a setup by Dems? Republican Senator Tom Coburn thinks so. Reason TV thinks we should make The Dukes of Hazzard legit.
We also had some war-related posts this past weekend as well. I posted this piece about a chaplain and his atheist bodyguard, EA will let gamers play Medal of Honor as The Taliban, and Outlaw points us to yet another act of war by Iran against us. Is 31 years of conflict not enough to retaliate in some fashion?
Of course we also had our fair share of light-hearted posts too. We love car wrecks — non-fatal ones… speaking of The Dukes of Hazzard, Carma, and just plain lucky. History is also a favorite subject around here… check out these color videos taken during the Blitz on London. For the record it is NOT possible to be too proud of Texas. Speaking of Texas… Globe Genie — from M.I.T. — can transport you around Texas — or the rest of the world if you choose. James Garner smacks down Julie Andrews — America Hell yeah! And on a final note… how do you say Happy Birthday to the wife who is helping you battle liver and colon cancer? Happy birthday Rachel!
