A critique of Rick Perry. Fairly condescending, actually, but it does bring up some pertinent issues. Also related, Nationalization Sparks Culture War.
In addition, this is worth reading: Closing the Door on Education Innovation. I have no idea how that is going.
We have a couple of school here that are part of the International Baccalaureate program, to give children a More Global Worldview. It is the same curriculum no matter what state/country you are in, focusing on
* Who we are
* Where we are in place and time
* How we express ourselves
* How the world works
* How we organize ourselves
* Sharing the planet
There’s a waiting list for the schools that offer it. I believe all those questions are answered by the Bible so it’s odd to me that even Christian parents want those answered by a program that is pretty much completely Godless. Add to that the fact that there is a governing body made up of people who have no idea what *I* want my children to learn (and wouldn’t care if they did) and it’s just a bit creepy for me.
“With the shooting war that’s emerging betweeen Arne Duncan and Rick Perry over national control of education, some of the people who helped facilitate the movement toward nationalization are now saddened to see that creating a giant lever in DC that has the power to impact every school in the nation leads directly to a vicious, snarling political war over education policy, such that education can’t be discussed and debated dispassionately because culturally aliented partisans who don’t trust each other are all too busy trying to be the first person to seize the lever.”
I’m going to have to memorize that paragraph. And your second article does have an excellent point that conservatives and progressives don’t share any ideological ground anymore. This is all going to be very bad.
Yawn…
Um, okay…
Your Critique link leads me through the intertubes to a blank white place, where there are no doors and windows. It frightened me.
Sorry: http://www.weeklystandard.com/articles/rick-perry-annotated_590440.html
For more than one reason, too.
http://www.firstthings.com/blogs/firstthoughts/2011/08/19/marriage-minus-monogamy-vi“>Marriage Minus Monogamy. An interesting article series. I think his prediction at the end of the article is a little much, deleterious as this whole issue has been on the institution. There’s some interesting discussion in the comments section.
I don’t think he’s understating what may come at all.
40 Years Later: How to Undo the Autonomy Argument for Abortion Rights and Abortion Abatement. On the whole, a positive outlook.
Last and not least, the philosophy of grammar.
There are a dearth of Polish birthday jokes, so all you get is…happy birthday, Rich!
Don’t know if you guys are going to start a Libya thread, but as I pointed out on another site, we should all be sending “Thank You” cards to former President Bush – if it wasn’t for him and the war in Iraq, a motley collection of Libyan rebels, including elements associated with Al Queda, would now be busily searching for nuclear material now stored at Oak Ridge (and, I’ve been told, large amounts of mustard gas as well). But I don’t expect a lot of commentary from the MSM on that point.
And thanks for reminding me about Rich – I’ll have to send him a birthday kishka.
President Obama won the war against Libya, don’tcha know?
And Iraq was the biggest success of his administration, too.
Happy birthday, Rich.
Happy Birthday Rich!
Where yat,Zoop?
Wszystkiego Najlepszego, Rich!
Al Gore couldn’t have been more on the nose with his climate theories, too.
(sorry, it’s early and that’s the best I’ve got to smoke out Rich)
Happy birthday to Phil Dunphy…Ty Burrell is 44 today.And Ray Bradbury is 91!
Plus our boy Rep. Thaddeus McCotter. Ya gots some good company, Mistah Troopah!
Another Pole born today,Carl Yastrzemski,age 72(Eric can double check that spelling).
Looks good to me. Always easier to just call him “Yaz.”
I’m not going to wish Rich a Happy Birthday until there’s evidence that he’ll see it.
I’m a busy man.
Good point.

Happy birthday, Rich! In your honor I’ll have a Polish sausage for lunch (heads out of the gutter, dirty people!) and TP an EPA bureaucrat’s house.
Happy Birthday Rich, wherever you are.
Come back,Rich!

Richard, Richard, where for art thou? Will a bribe work?
I’ll give you a cookie if you come out to play . . . .
Many happy returns – I hope your birthday is grand!
Happy birthday, Rich!
Happy Birthday, Rich! (that’s my dad’s name so it’s feels odd to say that)
Polish National Anthem?

So Richard has a birthday! Have a happy one Rich, and please come play with us. We are like an ignored sibling who wants attention! Bring it! No Polish jokes for I feel you are more correctly not Polish, but a far eastern Prussian!
Maybe Rich is out on an “Ecology Now” tour with Al Gore!

Check this poll out…. a good start…lets hope it evens out a little..no peaks….not yet…a year from now…I’d like to start to see a real show of momentum.
Do you realize I could say “that’s what she said” for probably 6 different areas in your sentence?
Interesting numbers, Steph, thanks for the link.
Over/under Tink didn’t have the church meeting yesterday?
Signed,
Fellow Filth Flarn Filthifier
Hmm. I didn’t think it would show – I ‘ll make it next week. For sure.
The Paul number is especially interesting given that he has a snowball’s chance in Hell of getting the nomination. It shows how weak Obama is. And it shows Perry’s strength given that he just entered the fray.
Some more mighty fine slicin’ and dicin’ courtesy Mr. David Stein. Ms. Geller, please concentrate your energies elsewhere.
Yes it was rather GOODISH was it not?
The Clinton Surplus Myth. Another liberal talking point demolished. In short, Clinton’s administration used misleading accounting reporting to claim there was a surplus when none existed. Now we know where Enron got the idea from.
Enron? You mean the guys busted and sentenced in the Bush years?
Nice article, that’s one to share.
“Cooking the Books?” Hmmm. Might make it into the 3D Cookbook, under the heading, “Bill’s favorites!” Right alongside the heading for “How to Properly Place Cigars in the Humidor!”
Whew, I was afraid when I read “The Clinton Surplus Myth” it was going to be an in depth analysis of another intern scandal. Or a pron documentary.
I don’t know if this will go anywhere, but it couldn’t happen to a nicer tool.
